Warhammer 40k - Unit Review Library 164 - Astra Militarum, Ratling Snipers
"Space Hobbits!"
Hello everyone! Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa and this is a Warhammer 40k - The Great Unit Review Wheel! post!
Now known as the Unit Review Library!
What is it all about? It is not there to just give a stat. It is there to give MY review of the unit!
Also this has become quite the Challenge! With so many units to review in the game the consensus in the hobby community is that I will not have enough time to review all of the Datasheets before the new edition of Warhammer 40,000 came out.
I should have started when 10th edition launched!
490 days since the start of 10th Edition.
This is Review #164, I am 326 reviews behind! (Lowest I have been is 314 behind)
January 2025 we are expecting Astra Militarum and Aeldari codexes as explained Here, so time to focus on THOSE Datasheets!
Astra Militarum, Ratling Snipers
10th Edition Index
Ratlings are another stable divergent genetic species of Humans in Warhammer 40,000. That said, they evolved this way and they have children who ware genetically Ratlings. Thus they are a sub-race of humans.
They are 60pts for a squad of 5 in the Guard and cost you $35!
But let's check those stats...
Stats
Movement 6"
Toughness 2
Save 6+(armor/invul/Feel No Pain)
Wounds 1
Ld 8+
OC 1
Weapons
Ranged:
Sniper rifle
36" Range, 1 Shot, Hitting on 3+. S4, AP -2 and 2 Damage each.
Heavy (When remaining stationary, they get +1 to Hit)
Precision (The wounds they cause can be allocated to a Character in a unit if they can see it)
Melee:
Close combat weapon
1 Attack, Hitting on 5+. S2, AP 0 and 1 Damage each.
Abilities
Stealth - When shooting at Ratlings, the enemy applies a -1 to the To Hit roll
Infiltrate - This unit can be set up within No Man's land
Shoot Sharp and Scarper
After shooting, as long as they are not in Engagement range of an enemy, this unit can make a normal move. They cannot declare a charge after this.
Thoughts
60pts and probably likely to get overlooked, Until they kill something.
They have a fair chance to put down a Space Marine or lesser hero. They are not hard at all and it is good that they can run away after shooting. It is probably wise to withdraw after they manage to kill something and then use them to complete secondary missions.
That makes 13 Astra Militarum Datasheets Reviewed putting them on 14.60% Completed. The total Completed is 16.88% Complete! Can I review them all?!
Thank you for reading!

The heavy weapons from a few posts back and these snipers both look like very effective units points-wise for harassing specific targets while field artillery and masses of troops manage the battlefield through maneuvers and area denial.
Indeed. And those are periphery units. The Guard then usually have 3-4 20-man blocks of infantry and 2-4 tanks on the field as well!
Days after your review GW releases new space Hobbits.🤣🤣🤣
Right? You noticed that as well huh?
