Also this has become quite the Challenge! With so many units to review in the game the consensus in the hobby community is that I will not have enough time to review all of the Datasheets before the new edition of Warhammer 40,000 came out.
I should have started when 10th edition launched!

Astra Militarum, Aegis Defence Line

With so many Datasheets to do, I thought it would be fun to mix it up a bit and roll randomly, therefore not doing the datasheets alphabetically.... and then rolled an A... typical. lol
The Aegis Defence line is a Fortification type. So it is more similar to a vehicle but it has the Fortifications keyword and rules for dealing with them.
This is a model that comes in different parts and is deployed inside your deployment zone where it will not move of course, but gives you a solid obstacle for the enemy to spend resources getting through and all the while providing protection to the unit behind it!
It costs 145pts to field and costs $80 to buy.

The funniest part about this statline is that the fortification has a Leadership value and can be Battleshocked...

Abilities
Fortification
(This is a somewhat universal Fortification Rule for all Fortifications in 10th Edtion)
When in Engagement range with a Fortification, units can still be a target of shooting attacks but at a -1 to Hit Modifier unless the weapon is a Pistol.
Units can fall back from a Fortification without doing a Desperate Escape test if they are Battle-Shocked, unless they have to move over enemy models.
Emplacement Platform
Astra Militarum Infantry models can end any sort of move on top of this model.
Reinforced Cover
Every time an attack is allocated to a model and that model is not fully visible to the attacking unit's models, that model has Benefit of Cover.
Defence Line
While an Astra Militarum Infantry model has Benefit of Cover as a result of the Reinforcer Cover rule, that model has a 4+ Invulnerable Save.
Thoughts
I have heard that this Defense Line is not being played because it is "not good" but honestly I see room for a lot of exploits here. With Astra Militarum, a BoC moves their armor from 5+ to 4+ against AP0 but AP -1 and beyond will mean that a 4++ would come in handy.
This Defense Line would be to guard a home objective and some artillery/heavy weapons platforms your army might have.
The thing that is overlooked is that this is not a piece of terrain. It is a model, an enemy model nearly as tough as a Leman Russ Battle Tank. You can't just move over it unless you can fly or are titanic.
This thing will make it necessary to move around or fight/shoot to kill it before being able to move through it. Which can mean making a neat 2-layer defense if there are a unit of guard behind it.
I have the Legends version of this Datasheet, which is a different unit... honestly... I can see me using this in a cheeky way...
That makes 4 Astra Militarum Datasheets Reviewed putting them on 4.4% Completed... this is going to take a while. The total Completed is 15.03% Complete! Can I review them all?!
