Warhammer 40k - The Leviathan Armies are ready for battle!

.Good day everyone!

Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa!

@merenludick and I have finally assembled all of our Leviathan box miniatures. Space Marines for me and Tyranids for Meren.

This post is part of the Fund Raiser series. Details HERE, and thus I need to post, earn and help raise the money. We are more than halfway there and the target is to get everything done by the end of the month!

Onwards to the post.

Here is Meren looking very satisfied (though maybe a little tired) after building his SWARM of gribbly space bugs!

There are Big Bugs and lots of swarms of little guys as well. They far outnumber the Space Marines... but never outmatch!

As for big guys in the box there are three.
Space Marines get the new Ballistus Dreadnought. This is a fire support Dreadnought with a lot of guns.
There is a Screamer Killer, that is the big bug on the right. It has a bio-plasmic scream ranged attack and a boatload of attacks in close combat.
The remaining gribbly with the tentacled maw is a Psychopage. This creature specializes in hunting and eating psykers. It also gives itself and those around it Feel No Pain... Which is a great way to reduce incoming damage.
The Psychophage also gets more powerful when the unit it targets is below starting strength, and even more powerful when they are below half strength!

On the Tyranid side there is also the two leaders:
The Winged Tyranid Prime and the Neurotyrant.
The Winged Prime is a flying monster that can move quite fast. He does fairly good in close combat.
The Neurotyrant is far more dangerous. Psychic attacks that work like a flamer. He is also a unit that keeps the other bugs in line at longer distances.
Both of these leaders are Synapse creatures, which means they carry with them the inexorable will of the Hive Mind!

At the top left we see Von Rhyn's Leapers, sneaky bugs.
Bottom left are Barbgaunts, which are living artillery.
The rest are Termagaunts with the guns and Neurogaunts which are little wifi extenders for the Hive Mind. Haha.

The two armies square off against one another.
Altight, in this picture, I had not yet built my 10x Infernus Marines but even with those soldiers on the table, I would be outnumbered.

Turns out, that when you play all the units from the box that the Space Marine has more points on the board!

To make it fair I have to remove the Librarian in Terminator Armor as well as the Apothecary Biologis to level the playing field!

So it will be interesting to see what happens when we clash. I would be putting the Captain in charge of the Terminator squad and running the Lieutenant as the sneaky spy that he is!

I know it is almost "normal" for Space Marine players to Deep Strike (Teleport) the Terminators on to the board from the second turn onwards but I am going to stick with my Space Wolf roots and distrust the teleportation technology.

I shall deploy them on the board, in the open and as close to the enemy as I can. Space Marines have Combat Doctrines and in the first turn, Devastator Doctrine allows them to Advance and Shoot.

Thus I will be roughly 24" from the enemy deployment zone, first turn Terminators Advance 5"+D6" so a total of 6 to 11" towards the enemy and then open fire with their Storm Bolters and Assault Cannon. They are now 18-13" from the enemy Deployment and possibly within walking distance of the central board objective if there is one.

In under 1000pts, a squad of terminators are really powerful. I feel that if it were a larger game that they would be vulnerable but it also depends on the enemy you play against.

I hope you all enjoyed that! Thank you for reading!

Cheers!

Well done, Zak! How many hours did it take you in overall? Was certainly quite some work.

Oh, I do not think it was that much.

I don't know about Meren but clipping, cleaning mold lines and assembly I reckon if I had one sitting to do it in I would do it in around 4 to 5 hours.

Hahaha. It's all snap-fit. So it's simple.

Painting is going to be another story!

This weekend I am going to get my posting done and scheduled and then do a bit of a paint marathon.

We are playing an Eternal Carnage game on thr 5th of August. That means 3 guys with 5100pts vs me.

I will only play what I have painted, even if it's unequal.

I have 2430pts painted. Lol

Great to see the set fully built, I am still checking price and availability out here in Australia. It starting at $420Aud but I have seen one for $380AUD now. Though it still looks like good value it feels to expensive. I will keep looking while I make my other one up.

Go find out how much each unit costs individually in Oz. They are way more expensive separately.

However... if you are buying these things up you ould consider whether or not you want both armies a d split the box with someone. Lol

So what do you think will happen when these armies clash @aussieninja?

Oooof. I'd like to think GW made things pretty balanced, but I'd say that the Space Marines will probably take out the bugs in their first battle. I think the Space Marines are a little more straightforward to play and you've got a bit more experience... but I'm sure he's a quick learner and you'll soon have a seasoned campaigner on your hands.
