Warhammer 40k - Leviathan Box Space Marine Captain build!
Good day all! Time for me to build the Captain in Terminator Armor that came in the Leviathan box set!
BTW I am still fund raising as per the following post: Collecting funds for a good cause which is to date at 30.14% of the way!
Back to the Warhammer stuff. Above is what you need. A side cutter or clipper, a knife and the sprue you need to clean. As a bonus, the hobby shops sell small files as well to help clean up the model moulding lines etc.
So let's get started!
First step is to clip off all the model parts from the sprue. You don't need to cut too close to the model parts as you can cut off the excess later with either the pliers again or with the knife. This is sometimes because of the angle you need to approach the cut the first time around.
Here on the edge of the cloak you can see a little tab left over. We just cut this off and scrape with the knife or file it down to make it smooth.
Then just work through each piece once by one.
I found a mold line on this piece. These pieces actually do not have much in the way of mold lines. But it IS expected so you just clean them up when you find them.
This part just clips into the base. It has tabs for that and will be giving the Captain some extra height.
Here you can see the holes where the base piece slots into the basing material.
The sword has quite a profound mold line but it also runs across the knuckles so this we can ignore. But the parts on the blade and on the fuller but we shall remove.
One of the collection tabs was connected to the skull that makes up the pommel of the sword and this I cleaned with the file.
And there we go. All cleaned up. This is a push fit model. There is zero need for plastic glue or super glue at all.
Without looking at the instructions, it is pretty intuitive to fit all the parts together. And here is the result!
Camera roll:
This Captain is simply a massive model and he will look quite imposing on the battlefield. Terminators and similar units are now super tough with a Toughness of 5 (exceeding that of the super human Space Marines at 4) which will mean that stronger weapons will be needed to wound them easily and that certain small arms fire will struggle to wound them.
After the wounding, they have a 2+ armor save. With the reduction in AP (Armor Piercing) in the game in 10th edition, they will once more either keep their 2+ save or have the save reduced to a 3+. If they are obscured by terrain and there is an Ap -1 weapon hitting them, then back to 2+ saves they go.
When you hit them with the equivalent of anti-tank weapons that have an Ap -3 or greater, which would make their armor save less than 4+, which is a 50% efficiency, then they have a force field built into the Terminator Armor that gives them an 4+ Invulnerable save.
This means that they will always have at least a 50% chance for hits to bounce off them... until Mortal Wounds are dealt.
In any case Space Marines have 3 wounds each and the Captain has 6 Wounds!
Thank you for reading!
See you soon!
Cheers!
@zakludick
To me, "push fit" is the same as "when he dies, drop him on the table and watch him explode into his component parts" 😁
Lol. I doubt he would come apart. It would be difficult to pull this guy apart. This ain't Lego.
