Warhammer 40k - Its Cleen Green time! How to clean off 2nd Hand Minis

Good day everyone! Zak here from Cape Town, South Africa and this is Warhammer 40,000!

I have been collecting models for this game for over 20 years and one thing that happens quite a lot is I either buy 2nd hand models or I get GIVEN 2nd hand models that people do not want any more.

I have had friends changing armies, getting out of the hobby or leaving the country and this has swelled the collection... sort of.

It is time to get serious about repainting a lot of these models so that they actually count for something!

I have many goals with my collection of Warhammer 40,000:

• Build the largest Army on Hive/ in Cape Town/ in the Country/ etc.
• Build a Great Company of Space Wolves
• Build a Battle Company of Dark Angels
• Build a Battle Company of Ultramarines
• And other goals!

I also seek to play more massive games of Eternal Carnage and i have joined the Slow Grow of 2024 where I will be slowly growing an additional army!

So I have this box of Marines to work with...

This should get me the majority of the models for a mass infantry Space Wolves army that I want to build and play with in the Slow Grow.

This army will be 107 models for 2000pts! It is an unusual horde-style army for a faction such as Space Marines. It is going to be a lot of fun!

As recommended to me by my friend Nick (@lex-zaiya's partner), I am going to use a container that can close so it can prevent evaporation and I can put it away in the garage.

I could not fit everyone in and for the most part, I started snapping minis off their bases since I will not be re-using their 25mm bases. Marines should be on 32mm bases and my old-school stuff has to catch up with that!

Sometimes the feet would snap off cleanly... other times this would happen. Though it also happened once or twice where the feet would break off! Luckily I can just glue those back on.

Here is the MVP of the hour. I have seen Nic do some great cleaning jobs with this and as such, he was the best person to ask advice from. I bought a large bottle of this last year and it has been waiting in the garage for me to use it!

I managed to submerge most of the models that I will be needing for this army build although after scrubbing paint off there will be a disassembly and reassembly phase.

Majority of those models I shall take to my friend @xenowolfza to airbrush on the basecoats and main layer of armor colors. This will speed up my painting process.

With the lid covered, I turned my attention to a few other models that I had put aside that I had not needed to strip of paint.

These are mostly Space Wolves that I used before but had gone out of my army over time. I can paint up, repaint or touch-up their paints a bit and this will give me 1x of the Blood Claw squads that I will need for the first matches in the Slow Grow.
