Warhammer 40k - Army Rule Review 2 - Agents of the Imperium
Hello Everyone, Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa with another Warhammer 40,000 Faction Review.
I thought it would be prudent and a full-figure review if I reviewed the current Agents of the Imperium as they stand now in the 10th Edition Index and then I can review them again when the Agents of the Imperium Codex comes out with a good analysis of what the changes are!
First off, the Imperial Agents Army, with its associated Army Rule is the only army in the 10th Edition Index that did not have its own Detachment. This meant that you could technically play them without a Detachment bonus, though it might have been difficult to field a 2000pts army from their Datasheets alone.
Mostly the Agents of the Imperium as they are before the Codex are meant to be an add-on army that are a collection of specialists that you can add to any army of the Imperium.
Who are the Agents of the Imperium?
In a nutshell, the Agents of the Imperium were first meant to represent several different organizations within the Imperium that do not have enough units and models to make their own armies.
They costs roughly of the following: The Imperial Inquisition (Ordo Malleus, Ordo Hereticus, Ordo Xenos), the Imperial Navy, Temple Assassins, the Adeptus Arbites and Rogue Traders.
The new Codex that is coming soon seems to focus on the Inquisition as the main fulcrum, though one of the Detachments previewed seems to forecast an Imperial Navy focus.
Time will tell!
Army Rule – Assigned Agents
If every model in your army has the Imperium Keyword, you can include units from the Agents of the Imperium units in your army even if you have selected another Army as your faction.
The Maximum number of units that you can field from the Agents of the Imperium depends on the size of the army you are playing.
Basically, the main game sizes: Incursion, Strike Force and Onslaught are 1000, 2000 and 3000pts respectively.
For each 1000pts then, you can have 1x Retinue unit and 1x Character unit from the Agents of the Imperium Datasheets.
So in a standard 2000pts Tournament game, you could field, as an example: A Callidus Assassin, Inquisitor Coteaz, an Eaxction Squad and a unit of Imperial Navy Breachers.
None of the Temple Assassins may be your Warlord (Culexus, Callidus, Eversor and Vindicare Assassins are Characters)
Thoughts
And that is it… very simple.
We can expect some more intricate rules for the new Codex, but the ally rules are likely to be the same. I hope that they will have more units.
I don’t want to speculate too much on the new Codex. Instead I can tell you what people used the initial Imperial Agents rules for.
Mostly, people used these rules to put an Assassin in the army. Another thing people did was to add in a unit of “cheap” troops to add in to hold objectives. Usually this was used by Imperial Knights and Adeptus Custodes. Most other armies did not bother as Army and Detachment bonuses usually did not work on the allied units.
That is all for now… The next Army rule to check will be Space Marines so I can cover the Deathwatch Detachment that is about to go extinct… or will it?
