Day 3 of the Debmar Atlantic 2024 job. A collision on the Highway

avatar

Hey everyone. Today was a scorcher on site and caused quite a bit of fatigue.

This site is inside the Port grounds but it is also next to the main highway out of the CBD. There was an accident today on the N1 Highway as a Truck had rammed in underneath a bridge. It had lost part of its load.

My driver had gone past there and said that the truck had been carrying a container but that the collision had broke the container into two pieces!

This first caused the traffic police to close these routes out of the City, re-routing the traffic through Salt Rivier, which probably would have caused massive headcahes in that area.

When the traffic was allowed to use the N1 exit but it quickly turned into a slog... just look at that bumper to bumper mess...

Then cars started using the Port as a shortcut... in the end of the day, this traffic lasted for around 5 hours. By the time I had finished work however, there was almost no traffic.

Still, I would not have liked to sit in that traffic at all so I drove via the Marine Drive approach back home.

Here is a part of the site in a bright lighting. The sky at least is pleasing to look at.

Here is our container. My office is on the top and we have a storage container at the bottom.

And here is my desk from where I do a lot of my work if I am not onboard the vessel.

So many reports to do!

Thank you for reading my little snippet of the day.

Believe it or not, it is very encouraging to get comments from all of you!

Cheers!
