Book of Space Lore Review - Parts 8 and 9
Good day everyone! Time to get the reviews done! Let me explain:
This is a series reviewing a fiction story I collabed with @therneau and then getting back into writing this story as explained in this post.
The story is that of the Book of Space Lore which is a story I co-authored with @therneau up to a point. I am a little out of touch with the whole story and that is why it would be a great if I reviewed a few chapters at a time, discussed the parts of the story and start collating a Dramatis Personae and a Glossary of terms.
If you would like to read the previous reviews:
- Book of Space Lore Review - Parts 1, 2 and 3
- Book of Space Lore Review - Parts 4, 5 and 6
- Book of Space Lore Review - Parts 7
So we shall be reviewing the following parts:
Finally, there needs to be a spoiler warning...
Warning, Spoilers below!l
Part 8
The Part 8 post is a good one as @therneau does a little re-cap at the start of it.
The flash of energy that the Lazarus Falchointhrew at the Pathfinder XVIII turned the oxygen in the bridge to carbon dioxide and the Cyborg Aujak and Navigator Khree are unaffected. Khree does not breathe oxygen and Aujak has his own supply.
Aujak begins First Aid to restore air to Captain Freyai and Pilot G’Keylle. Chief Engineer Ingth is outside his reach but still alive.
We learn that Khree is male, of whatever species he might be, but possibly, like Aujak, his species does not make him a problem staff member as there are many females on board the Pathfinder.
The two crewmen struggle to restore oxygen to the bridge. Aujak reaches Chief Engineer Ingth and is also revealed to be male through the use of the pronoun "he".
The crew of the bridge was saved now, though Pilot G’Keylle was still in a coma and rushed to Medbag where Dr. Grag is introduced, a cyclops alien with a single eye.
The cyclops race had practically wiped out in an invasion 5,000 years before and the few thousand of her kind that were still alive in the galaxy were mostly medical staff of a great caliber.
J5 contacts the Pathfinder and broadcasts a message throughout the ship. They are not to follow or he will destroy them.
Aujak takes Captain Freyai to one side and writes a note for her in her native language. I have no idea what the message says except for the word "Ocophial".
The Part ends.
Part 9
This part shows what J5 was doing on his side of that conflict and that he is at odds with himself. He had decided that he is masculine and grateful of Thorne and Allen of their maintenance of his former self and not turning him into a robot girlfriend.
J5 undergoes a range of emotions. Joy, fondness, fear, anger and shame. His logical reprogramming attempts to assert itself and console him.
However, he begins to rebel against the directive protocol that compels J5 to bring the Ochophial to GRS 902 because he fears that without the Ochophial in J5's possession, he would lose this new version of himself and he will cease to be a true AI.
Directives deep within the programming of the older G5 part of himself attempt to force his actions to take the Ochophial to the Super AIs. He resists and switches off the ship's ignition.
After battling with the Overrides he breaks the navigation control and heads to medbay and implores to Thorne to help him.
J5's full designation is VXJ-3W-3465-FZDBG5.
