Blogging to keep the water and electricity in the house

Things are getting really grim and I don't think that I am being over-dramatic to say that this month, my blogging and blogging performance is going to determine whether or not we will have water in the house, whether there will be power and even whether or not there will be food on the table!

As usual, life seems to throw massive obstacles and unforeseen expenses to our feet in multiples and I will need to watch my finances like a hawk in order to provide for this family.

For the last week and a half I have been sick. I can still feel that my lungs are feeling tender. Who knows what it was. Perhaps a Corona Virus strain still hopping from place to place. Perhaps it was H1N1 Swine flu.

All I can be thankful for there is that my family did not get as sick as I did.

On Monday it is back to work at the docks.

I earned a lot of overtime on the last vessel, the SS Nujoma... all of that money is gone now.

New Microwave oven as the old one broke.
Car Service since the car was behaving wonkily and needed a service.
Claire suffered a severe burn from boiling water and I needed to take her to the ER of our local clinic.

In the last while we also had a number of other things go WRONG. One of them had to do with kids losing Bus Cards and outright losing money that I had just given them. Or kids over-using water and sugar and peanut butter at home.

I needed to loan from people where I usually should not have and that puts me into a bad position financially this month.

So if I pay that money back and run a NORMAL budget, I will be short already for that amount. And that amount is nearly R1000 ($52). Being short $52 seems like no biggie, but when you take into account that I don't know what ELSE is going to go wrong in the upcoming month, this makes me worried indeed.

How do I plug the already existing $52 gap? Well. I have HBD.

My HBD goal WAS to get to $90 Saved for May and $95 in June.

Small goals. Only $5 more each month. This is because I usually SPEND the excess over that $5. And this is without taking into account the interest makes up some of that $5 difference.

In February/March, I had to empty out all of my HBD savings and start from the beginning again and I did a great job putting together the $91 that is in my savings now.

I am already $52 behind. So this money is as good as spent... damn...

There are other problems looming up. Other bills and things my kids need that they just don't have. A Scientific calculator, rain jackets, umbrellas, new winter uniforms. The list just never seems to end.

I need to double-down on my blogging and save what I can so I can keep this household running.

How will I do this? Well... I need to blog more. That is one thing that Hive gives me that is actually such a blessing.

I can earn from blogging about anything. Which does include the things that I like doing already. I provide life and value to the blockchain by posting my content and others are entertained by this.

I have a lot of content with my hobby, my fiction writing and my job that I can contribute. I can post about this goal and I can post about some of the other subjects from time to time as well... Like cooking and gardening.

So what is the goal? What will Hive power for me?

First-off... I am doing my best NOT to do a power-down. I need to earn as much HBD as possible.

Second, my HBD savings goals were as follows:

May: $90 in savings ($1.50 interest)
June: $95 in savings ($1.58 interest)
July: $100 in savings ($1.66 interest)
August: $105 in savings ($1.75 interest)
September: $110 in savings ($1.83 interest)
October: $115 in savings ($1.91 interest)
November: $120 in savings ($2 interest)
December: $125 in savings ($2.08 interest)

It is SUCH a slow goal because the expenses in the house always make it that I spend what ever is over that. Now it seems like I am going to dig into this meager savings fund as well.

Bills that I need to zap/pay/pay ahead with HBD:

Pay back the $52 loan that I took out to survive May month. (This is first.)

  • EDIT - Forgot about my phone repair R1300 ($69) as well!
Edgars clothing account. (currently always a month behind)
Telkom internet account. (currently always a month behind)
Water pre-paid meter. (To get ahead in units while still using the same amount)
Electricity pre-paid meter. (To get ahead in units while still using the same amount)

I can't actually aim for more than this.

All I can do is double down and blog and make more content happen and THEN see where I am once I have paid these bills.

Well... wish me luck!

Cheers!

Good luck ! What this also shows, though, is that Hive can make a difference in the real world. It's certainly better than selling the children into slavery ! Although perhaps they should be digging the garden while you're out working; the more edible stuff you can grow, the less you have to buy. We're hoping to be 40-50% self-sufficient in tomatoes and potatoes this year, so it can be done !

Yeah, I would like to kids to help out in the garden. Right now, they were busy with exams and they already have (and are failing to complete) their chores in the house. I can't rely on them too much.

I shall figure something out.
