A Guide for the new Hive Students of 2022 - What to post about?
Good morning my fellow people on Hive and especially my current and future students on Hive. My name is Zak Ludick, I live in Cape Town South Africa and since the start of 2022, I have been actively onboarding and teaching the basics of Hive to a number of new users. Most of these I on-boarded myself, but these lessons are valid topics for anyone who posts online and it is a good idea to educate and contemplate!
The Frequent Question: What do you Blog about?
One of the things that I often get asked is: "What do you blog about?" If you are explaining Hive to someone else you need to be careful here: They are not just asking what YOU post on Hive. They want to know "But what does one post on this platform?" which is the same as asking "What do people post on Hive?", but often they ask in the first example and say the word "you".
Then the mistake could be, that you launch into an explanation about what you post about, what you do and what you find most interesting. This might not be completely bad. Maybe you share similar interests. Maybe they see your passion and interest and decide to check it out.
But the more accurate answer should be carefully put: "Oh you can blog about anything really. There are communities for different interests and you can find anything on there from fitness to cooking, to creative writing. I do insert your Hive interests"
Blogging Strategy and Blogging Longevity
It is a good idea to approach the subject of Blogging with a little bit of consideration. You do need to plan your blogging a bit. Understand where it is that you need to post. See my previous Guide: A Guide for the new Hive Students of 2022 - Hashtag equals Love.
Generally, Hive already has plenty of common interests that most people will find a place for their general archetype of interest. It is very possible that you have yet another interest that is not listed on Hive yet and you can eventually create a community of your own.
Communities such as OCD, Ecency, ProofofBrain and GEMS are good places to put interests that are creative and well presented, but do not yet have a dedicated channel.
EXAMPLE: A blog post, or several blogs about RC Cars.
Your hobby is RC Cars and there is no Community with thousands of members to post in. You need to use one of the above communities to carry your post to move people. You will probably make some friends who also do RC Cars and eventually, you can create a community group, should you muster enough of them.
However, if RC Cars IS your passion, obsession, hobby and interest then it will be easy for you to blog about it!
Being able to remain constant and interested in what you do will bring you more success than just trying to impress people with things that you do not enjoy. Of course, if you manage to find a spot where you do BOTH, then you are golden!
Variety - The spice of life!
Usually, most human beings have more than ONE interest.
We have things we do when we want to relax, we have things we want to do that bring us joy or things we do with specific friends and/or family.
Invariably, you will have more than one thing to post about!
It is important to know that consistency should mean that you should stick to one, two or three themes more often than not and attract to you like minded people. This does not mean that once a week or month you can't make a post about something completely different!
Just make sure that you post into the right community and use the correct tags.
Above all, never be afraid to post.
I will cover this in the next Guide!
Happy Hiving!
Cheers!
@zakludick
I think that the main issue about this is that new users tend to "copy" older users and write about the same things... When, as you said, everyone should write about HIS/HER passion, as you can blog whatever topic you want here on HIVE... Originality and "specific" topics very often get a lot more upvotes, and it's easier to stick out when there is no forest of same topic posts... ;)
I have picked this post on behalf of the @OurPick project and it will be highlighted in the next post!
Indeed!
If people keep trying to copy what was successful for one person, all we get to read is the same thing over and over again.
Right now, our supergroups for content is supporting multiple niches at the same time.
The dream for the future is that we grow interest groups so large that they need to stick to their communities to interact with their like-minded people.
That would mean a much larger adoption of the platform.
I do my best to show that Hive is for everyone and everyone should be on Hive.
Thank you for the support!
Some great advice. I like the variety part. It's good to spice things up a bit. I want to onboard my first person and am abit stuck where to start. Do you have any advice? They didn't use crypto before either.
Check out my last Mobey-Ludick family progress post. There is a list of guides I send to all the newbies.
That's what I send them. I hope it helps you too!
Thanks, I think I remember reading that too. !CTP
Cool. Enjoy. I hope it helps! !PIZZA
Thanks! Sent as reading material. 👍😎
Cool. I hope they like it!
You have gave a very brilliant answer to that question and I always do well to tell new users that too. Sometimes we often post to a community where we shouldn't and I think that is one major problem I'm still having.
How can I find and know all the communities that I would like? I've posted a few times to the Ocd community and I will always get an idea of a community that would have been better for sure post. It would be really helpful if I can have an idea of how to know all the communities available so I can make my choice.
OCD remains one of the best communities in the current economy/demographics to post into, especially when there is no large niche group to post into.
Let's face it, not all accounts on Hive are active. The most active users of Hive who stay on all year around are maybe 15-20% of accounts with only around 5% being active on a daily basis.
Thus a community made up of average users will only have 5 active people with a membership of 100 people.
So OCD is the place to be for things that does not have a community.
Take FoodiesBeeHive as an example. Thousands of members. Many dozens of daily users. No need to post food anywhere else and then still include the OCD tag.
You need to just search for communities in Ecency if you are unsure.
Okay I understand it better now. I've been able to find more communities now with the help of the post @ecency made and it's really so cool.
Thank you so much for the update and advice, I really appreciate it.
You are most welcome @hopestylist.
You do so well on Hive, I barely think you need me to tell you anything!
Thank you so much for saying that but I'm so opened to more ideas and corrections if you have any at any time sir 🙏.

Haha. Likewise. I wish I grew as fast as you! If not by this Sunday, then by next Sunday you will surely surpass me in HP!
Hehehe, I don't really know what to say. Let's keep hoping for the best for ourselves, the good thing is I'm part of your family now 🥰🥰.

Yep! You are part of the family and part of the team. We will be growing well together!
Exactly, we will grow well together.
How is the evening over there?
Its going alright. Lecturing the kids a bit, there is lightning in the sky now (which is actually not usual on the West Coast) so now I am telling the kids that this is what happens when they make me angry.
It started by picking up the cat wrong (don't hurt the cat). 😫😂😂😂
Oh, that's good to know, I see they are getting a good lecture from you, hehehe.
My regards to them 🥰🥰.
If you use peakd interface you can simply go to communities and click on all communities and you'll be directed to every communities on Hive.
Okay, I will try that too, thank you so much for the help 🙏.
There is useful information and advice.
As you progress through the Hive and gain new knowledge, you realise the mistakes you have made. That's why I always try to read the articles with information about the use of hive and I know that I can learn from each of them.
I am glad it helps you!
You would think with the number of interests I have, that posting would come easily to me, and yet I still struggle! But I am slowly expanding and getting a little braver. Thank you for always being there with encouragement!
Looking forward to your next post Sam! 🤣🤣🤣😁
That will be in a few hours. A little bit of a fanart for Fell Dragon. @lex-zaiya's fault, as I devoured practically everything she had written to date, and I mean written, not posted. Wait... does that mean I am essentially the Fell Dragon to @lex-zaiya's writing?!
TBH. I have to catch up on all of that still so I don't know what you are talking about! Lol
hahaha, I know the feeling... but when she sent it to me, I lost about 3 days just reading. So worth it though!
When I have 3 days...
Thank you so much for this informative article, we need more of this all around hive because most newbies usually have these questions but are either too shy to ask or don't know who to ask. Knowing the right community to publish articles or even knowing a specific community exists is yet another problem, I made that mistake a lot when I was still new to hive and published in the wrong communities. OCD will issue a warning and tell you the right community to use in case of next time, but some communities will just mute you asap
Indeed. I feel that communities need to be a bit softer on first time offenders and use those opportunities to teach people, not scare them away.
I think in some communities the rules and the descriptions are pretty clear. Sometimes it's all about reading those description, read first before posting and it will 90% help people avoid mistakes. Another approach would be asking around and engaging with existing poster and ask about questions.
You're totally right. One thing I have noticed is that the rules of a community doesn't show up if you're using ecency app, it only shows the description. But generally, a person who wants to post in a specific community should at least read the description
I only use ecency a few times but mostly using peakd just because it has everything I need and easy on my eyes too. From what I understand, ecency is superior for mobile experience. BUT yeah, those were just a small tip from me, reading community description and observing around would definitely help.

Awesome love! I have a variety of interests, and I have found that cycling through them is a great strategy, instead of constantly trying to post about the same subject in the same community. I like the variety and I think it helps me come across as a more diverse writer. Thanks for inspiring me to blog in the very 1st place! I had forgotten how much I love writing, and here, I get to write about whatever I want, whenever I want and I get rewarded for it. It's really a win-win!
Keep going my babe! You are doing so well!
This is a very brilliant explanation in Hive towards newbies, instead of telling them what you do, let them know they are places for them to fit in, explore and publish their passions which may interest and bring closer people with those passions.
Thank you very much! Cheers!
Heheh...they seem to be no beer around but anyway Cheers😄😄
