A Nostalgic Journey to Surabaya Old Town

The morning sun began to greet as I stood at Bangil Station, Pasuruan. Today, the journey to Surabaya Old Town would start with a local train departing at 10:20 AM. This local train always brings a nostalgic feel with its distinctive engine noise and whistle.

With the ticket in hand and the train arriving on time, I boarded the carriage that was already filling with passengers. The train departed right on schedule, and the journey began. From the window, the scenery of green rice fields and houses of the local residents alternated, accompanying the one-hour-and-twenty-minute trip.

At exactly 11:40 AM, the train arrived at Surabaya Kota Station. This station itself is a historical building that has witnessed the dynamics of Surabaya since colonial times. After disembarking, my first stop was the Flea Market located not far from the station.

The Flea Market is a paradise for antique lovers. Every corner is filled with historical items, from vinyl records and old cameras to antique household appliances. I didn't miss the chance to hunt for antiques, hoping to find hidden treasures among the piles of goods.

After satisfying my antique hunting cravings, my stomach started to growl, signaling that it was time to find some food. Around Surabaya Old Town, many food stalls and restaurants offer typical Surabaya cuisine. I decided to try the famous "rawon setan," a dish of beef with a rich black broth. The meal was truly appetizing and did not disappoint.

Once done eating, I continued my journey to the Surabaya Old Town area. Old buildings with colonial architecture adorned this area. Each corner holds past stories that are interesting to capture. I spent the afternoon strolling around and taking photos, capturing the beauty and uniqueness of Surabaya Old Town through my camera lens.

Time flew by quickly, and before I knew it, the sky started turning orange. It was time to return to the station for the trip home. The train that would take me back to Bangil was departing at 6:20 PM. I headed back to the station with a satisfied heart and a head full of wonderful memories from this day trip.

The train arrived, and I boarded with a sense of relief. The journey home gave me time to reflect on the day's experiences. Surabaya Old Town not only offered architectural beauty and antiques but also taught me to appreciate the history and memories contained within. Until we meet again, Surabaya Old Town. I hope we cross paths again someday.

Ah Surabaya...
I love that Band from Surabaya called Silampukau. Their first album was an ode for Surabaya, beautiful, yet, sombre...

Thank you for posting this. Surabaya is great!

Toh hujan sama menakjubkannya
Di Paris atau di tiap sudut Surabaya
