I escaped scam
I always had at the back of my mind that the new business (POS - point of sales) I was going to start was a risky one because it has to do with handling a lot of cash, running withdrawals and transfers for folks...
That's why I always remain cautious of who comes and goes out of my kiosk and the body language of people, and also I try to recognize some popular scam strategies that are used everyday.
So far so good, I was being successful until this fateful day...
Before leaving the house I had prayed to have a good and successful day and evidently God really answered my prayers. Here's what happened:
With my gentle music on and my grateful and joyful heart, I was happy to receive two young guys who seemed to be customers.
"What can I do for you?" I asked with a gentle smile on my face.
Their response even got me excited because they said they wanted to deposit money and I've been wishing that someone comes to deposit so I have some extra cash to sell to others.
"How much do you want to deposit?" I asked looking at one of them who seemed to be leading in the conversations.
"N3000...oh no, N30,000" He replied with a voice lacking some confidence.
I asked if he was sure of that and he said yes. Then I asked him to give me the account details I would deposit to.
"90307...." He began calling the account number. I asked for the bank and he said Opay.
Ok, I was already typing in the details on my machine in order to run a successful transfer to the account. The account name I found was rather strange, like the name of someone from the northern part of Nigeria and they certainly didn't look northern.
Well, my mind couldn't help but start suspecting these two. So after typing in the details, I didn't click the send button yet before I asked them to give me the deposit money (N30,000) first.
First they asked me if the transfer has been made, I told them not yet but I would like to confirm the cash first. They were insisting I make the transfer first but I firmly refused as I was already suspecting them.
The other person's response was: "Eh, the person that sent us didn't give us cash o".
I said Ok then give me the ATM card so I can do withdrawal then transfer to the account.
Yet again they said: "The person still didn't give us ATM card o"
I was already getting pissed at those two. "How the hell do you come to a POS without ATM or cash and you expect me to transfer money to an account, to think that you were even insisting I make the transfer first?
That's when they began saying sorry, and they said they wanted to call the person that sent them, they kept making what seemed to be fake calls and complaining it wasn't going through, until the other guy suggested that they go home and get cash...
Just then I realized that God really saved me from this people. Thank God I didn't hit the Send button before asking for the cash, else they would have run away with the money or claim that they already gave it to me.
I was relating the experience to my fiance and he told me I would have quietly called him so that he would arrive there quickly ans catch thise two because they are thieves. They only came to steal and nothing else. Well, I told him to let fo, they're already gone and there's nothing else we can do, just need to be careful next time.
Scammer now use many different methods and smartness is required to identify a lot of those, one also needs God's help through prayers.
I'm so happy I escaped from this petty scam and it's something I'm really grateful for. There are a lot of successful scam stories that one has no choice than to be extremely careful, I'm happy I got the wisdom to handle the situation.
So yes, I almost got scammed but I came out victorious instead!
Thanks for reading through!
In business dealings involving money, you have to be very careful. Swindlers are always there, wanting to take advantage. Luckily, you were one step ahead of the thieves.
Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
Excellent Tuesday.
