Since a few weeks ago I am in the town of La Azulita at a friend's house, the intention was to spend Christmas here but our stay was extended for the end of the year, from the first day we arrived even being in Merida the capital have been days of adventure after adventure and I say so because I never imagined having to cross a mountain over 2 thousand meters high to get to a hot springs, I have a few adventures to tell you about, but today I want to tell you about Las Cuevas Del Pirata in the municipality of Andres Bello in Merida.

Hola viajeros de pinmapple 🙌 espero se encuentren muy bien. Desde hace unas semanas me encuentro en el pueblo de La Azulita en casa de una amiga, la intención era pasar navidad aquí pero nuestra estadía se extendió para fin de año, desde el primer día que llegamos incluso estando en Mérida la capital han sido días de aventura tras aventura y les digo así por qué nunca me imaginé tener que cruzar una montaña sobre más de 2 mil metros de altura para llegar a unas aguas termales, que en mis post anteriores ya les conté como estuvo, en fin estoy feliz de poder conocer nuevos lugares y poder documentarlos, tengo unos cuantas aventuras que contarles pero hoy les quiero hablar de Las Cuevas Del Pirata en el municipio Andrés Bello en Mérida.

This enigmatic place is called Cuevas del Pirata or Cuevas del Quebradón, this name was recently acquired to attract a greater flow of tourists, this place has a very particular history and it is said that the Maracaibo Lake reached the town of Azulita and in this place pirate ships arrived, the most famous pirate and for which the caves are named was Henry Morgan, an English pirate who after having problems with the Spanish conquerors of the area came to the caves to take refuge, it is said that some time later these caves were used as a prison in fact our friend and guide told us that years ago the place still had metal bars and also had skulls and bones of people, it was a place of torture so to speak.

A este enigmático lugar se le llama Cuevas del Pirata o cuevas del Quebradón, este nombre fué adquirido recientemente para atraer mayor flujo de turistas, este lugar tiene una historia muy particular y es que se dice, que el lago de Maracaibo llegaba hasta la localidad de la Azulita y en este lugar llegaban barcos piratas, el pirata más famoso y por el que se le da nombre a las cuevas fué Henry Morgan, un pirata Ingles que luego de tener problemas con los españoles conquistadores de la zona llegó a las cuevas a refugiarse, se dice que tiempo después estás cuevas se usaron como prisión de echo nuestra amiga y guía nos dijo que años atrás el lugar todavía tenía los barrotes de metal y también habían cráneo y huesos de personas, era un lugar de tortura por decirlo así.

Our guide took us inside the caves and was telling us all this story, I was terrified, some of the exits of the caves were covered by landslides or garbage that has dragged the river rises, at one point our guide left us alone and did not know what to do hahaha, but then came back just looking for an exit, the caves are limestone, inside there are no lights so it is very important to go prepared, there are also any number of insects and bats, but the experience of this visit was unique.

Nuestra guía nos llevó al interior de las cuevas y nos iba contando toda esta historia, yo estaba aterrada, algunas de las salidas de las cuevas estaban tapadas por derrumbes o basura que ha arrastrando las subidas del río, en un momento nuestra guía nos dejó solos y no sabíamos que hacer jajaja, pero luego regreso solo estaba buscando una salida, las cuevas son de piedras caliza, en su interior no hay luces por lo que es muy importante ir preparados, también hay cualquier cantidad de insectos y murciélagos, pero la experiencia de esta visita fué única
