SAM ALTMAN CALLS FOR TECH INDUSTRY EMPATHY
Sam Altman, the big cheese at OpenAI, shed light on a rather uncomfortable truth in the tech world. In a candid virtual tête-à-tête on X (formerly Twitter, but now it's got an 'X' factor), Altman pointed out that Muslim and Arab techies, especially Palestinians, find it a bit tricky to speak up on their recent experiences. Why? Fear of reprisals and career curveballs.
Altman, the brains behind the ChatGPT sensation fueled by Microsoft (yes, the tech juggernaut), unleashed a call to arms within the tech realm. He urged the industry to have a bit of empathy on the Muslim and Bedouin. After all, everyone deserves a safe space to debug and debug their thoughts, right?
A curious user jumped into in, throwing a spotlight on Altman's perspective on the experiences of the Jewish community. Altman swiftly replied, "I'm Jewish. Discrimination against Jews is a real doozy globally, and I've got my tech tribe backing me up. But for our Muslim pals, the applause seems to be on mute".
Now, for some context – tensions escalated when Hamas decided to swipe right on conflict with Israel back in October. Cue a surge in discrimination against Jews and a spike in Islamophobia. Fast forward, and the numbers paint a grim picture – 1,200 lives lost on one side over 22,000.
