BRAZIL AND EGYPT INK VITAL AGREEMENTS TO BOOST TRADE AND INNOVATION
Brazilian President Lula da Silva and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi presided over the signing of two pivotal agreements during a landmark visit to Cairo on Thursday.
The first agreement focuses on enhancing trade relations, particularly in the realm of agriculture. It establishes protocols for the export of Brazilian meat, poultry, and pork to Egypt, ensuring adherence to stringent quality standards while streamlining regulatory processes. This landmark deal is poised to bolster trade and benefit both nations' economies.
The second agreement, a memorandum of understanding, underscores the mutual commitment to science, technology, and innovation. It aims to forge partnerships and facilitate collaboration between companies, universities, and research institutions, fostering an environment conducive to innovation and progress.
Addressing the press, President Lula remarked, "These agreements in the fields of science, technology, and agriculture will contribute significantly to the advancement of key sectors." He also highlighted the significance of an agreement in the aviation sector, which will facilitate direct flights between Brazil and Egypt, further enhancing connectivity and fostering economic cooperation.
President El-Sisi echoed Lula's sentiments, emphasizing the importance of strengthening ties not only in agriculture and science but also across various socio-economic and political domains.
The protocol for meat exports represents a milestone in trade relations between Brazil and Egypt, streamlining the cumbersome process of product certification. Roberto Perosa, Secretary of Trade and International Relations at Brazil's Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, emphasized the significance of the "pre-posting" system, which reflects confidence in Brazil's sanitary control measures.
Under the new agreement, Egyptian authorities will automatically recognize Brazilian certifications, eliminating the need for costly and time-consuming in-person inspections. This streamlined process will facilitate trade and unlock opportunities for growth in bilateral trade relations.
Simultaneously, the memorandum of understanding on science, technology, and innovation lays the groundwork for fruitful collaboration between Brazilian and Egyptian entities. By fostering joint research initiatives, innovation drives, and knowledge exchange programs, this agreement aims to harness the collective expertise of both nations for mutual benefit.
Led by Brazilian Diplomat Paulino Franco de Carvalho Neto and Egypt's Minister of State for Agriculture and Land Reclamation Mohamed Sayed El-Quseir, the formalization of these agreements marks a significant step towards deepening bilateral cooperation and fostering economic development through innovation and trade.
