The future conservative

Technology is in an ever-evolving state. I strongly believe that we’re going to be in this technological age for a very long time and within only the next 30 to 50 years, we’ll be seeing a lot of mind-blowing tech that might make some of us future old people slow down on our acceptance.

50 years ago, my father was a young man, vibrant and ever-ready to explore the new and trendy things of his time. As years passed, his curiosity was constantly aroused as he became one of the first people in our early surroundings to purchase numerous computers for all his kids.

As far back as 2003, I was exposed to the use of computers thanks to him. At the time, he also got us exposed to console gaming with a PlayStation 1. We were way ahead of the kids around us in terms of technology and so was my dad in comparison to the people around him.

However, that’s as far as my father was willing to go in terms of his technology interest. After that point, we began to have more advanced mobile phones that were a thousand times better than the desktops he got us in 2003. Keeping up with technology became a chore for him.

This entire event took place in only a span of 20 years. He has lost so much track of technology due to the mental fatigue of trying to learn, unlearn and relearn and had just decided to focus on what he knows. You could imagine the pressure it took for us to make him get rid of the computers he got in 2003.

His story and general loss of interest in constantly evolving technology makes me wonder how the next 20, 30 or even 50 years would look and how many things we’re generally going to lose interest in. If we’re this far gone into technology, talking about AI and most likely AGI in the next few years, what kind of tech should we expect in these double-figure years to come?

Are we going to grow into aloofness like my dad and most people his age? Or are we going to be a lot more open-minded than they are?

Personally, I believe that as the years go on, we’ll have a lot more available tech to choose from and more than likely decide which one to accept and which to not accept. It’s like my general dislike for TikTok and a lot of people’s refusal to accept Crypto. It doesn’t mean they’re entirely closed-minded, it just means they can now select what technology should be worth their time and what shouldn’t.

I’m particularly curious to see what aspect of technology becomes untapped territory for me over the next 15 to 20 years. But until then, I research and stay relevant as much as possible because I need to.
