A Fleeting Glance at my Crops

A Fleeting Glance at my Crops

Since I have been living in this house I have tried to make the most of all the available land, since we are in a time where any space of land is tremendously valuable and even more so when it comes to an area like the North of Táchira state in Venezuela, which is characterized by tremendously fertile soils, where crops flourish and are productive very quickly.

It is in this way that taking advantage of the natural advantages, I have decided to use a good part of the patio of the house, to gradually give shape to a small farm, where the protagonists are the edible species, the idea of all this is to obtain food of excellent quality, free of agrochemicals and at my fingertips.

At the beginning I started with many difficulties and full of many doubts, but by now I have a clearer mind and the plants are advancing in a positive way, this is how I have more than a dozen milkweed plants, five lemon mandarin, a pomegranate, an avocado, a chili bell pepper, two sweet potatoes and three banana plants developed.

This has been a very rewarding experience, where I have been able to learn as time goes by, since each plant has a different cycle, its own needs and dissimilar tastes, also with each one we face different types of pests, diseases and problems that little by little are being overcome thanks to totally organic supplement.

The idea is to consolidate a purely productive yard, where I can always count on a different plant in harvest time and with this not only palliate a little the expenses in terms of buying food, but to have the full satisfaction that these fruits are the result of hard work, patience and great dedication.

Today I am happy because we are only a few days away from harvesting the sweet potatoes. The chili peppers have had some problems, but they have been generous when it comes to bearing fruit. The lemons are growing strongly and the lechosas are going at a good pace. I hope sooner rather than later to be able to write another publication where I show you the first harvest of these lands, which I am completely sure will be a resounding success and, therefore, will be the first step to continue expanding a dream and a project for which I have worked so hard.

Finally if I would like to appeal to all those who have knowledge in the cultivation of lemons, this because my largest plant has begun to grow abundantly, but its branches are somewhat disorderly, some time ago I carried out a first pruning, which allowed it to overcome a disease and at the same time cleared a little its center and allowed each leaf to receive a good dose of sunlight, but I dare not perform the same operation, I would like to know how often it is necessary to try it and what is the best way to do it.
