At nightfall Natsuko tells him that that tower was built by her mother's uncle, an extremely intelligent man. However, one day she lost her mind from reading so many books, until she ended up disappearing without a trace. They searched for it, but they didn't find a single clue. Then there was a flood and a passage leading to the main house collapsed. It was then that they found a labyrinth of tunnels under the tower, and for everyone's safety, her grandfather made the decision to block that entrance. For this reason, Natsuko asks him to never return there, to which Majito accepts. Classes begin, although Majito is not at all enthusiastic about them. Furthermore, the fact of having arrived in a car arouses the envy of many of his colleagues, who usually work in the fields. Therefore, it doesn't take long for a fight to break out in which Majito takes the opportunity to hit his head with a rock so he can skip class. She calls him the chosen one and offers to guide him to where her mother is, reminding him that she never saw her body and assuring him that she eagerly awaits her arrival to be saved from her. After the Heron tells him that they will be waiting for him, Mahito faints and remains unconscious for several hours. When he wakes up he asks one of the old women about the Heron, although she reassures him that he was just dreaming. To check it, he goes to the same place where he found the stick that the Heron destroyed. The stick is there apparently without any damage, but when she picks it up, she breaks it into pieces. When he finally feels better, he goes to see Natsuko who is experiencing discomfort due to her pregnancy. In the room he sees Natsuko's bow, so before leaving, he takes a pack of cigarettes which he exchanges with an old man. So he begins to make his own bow and arrows. Which unfortunately don't work the first time, but then he finds a feather from the Heron which he places on her arrow. The surprising thing is that when aiming, the arrow comes out at a surprising speed. Then among the books, Mahito finds one left by his mother for when he grew up, but his reading is interrupted by the scream of the old women, who hurriedly look for Natsuko, who has disappeared from her room that morning. Majito, who In fact, he saw her that morning entering the forest, and he decided to accompany them on their search. With the bow in his hand he leaves towards the forest where they soon find traces of his shoes.

One of the old women named Kiriko tries to get him to return, but Majito continues on his way until he reaches the abandoned tower. At that moment some lights turn on and the Heron's voice invites them to enter. Kiriko cannot hear said voice because only those of Majito's lineage can do so. Even so, she prepares to enter to save her aunt and check if her mother is truly still alive. Accompanied by the fearful Kiriko, he crosses the entrance to which he closes behind her back, while the Heron asks them to accompany her. He takes them through several shelves full of books until they reach a room with a woman lying on an armchair that the Heron mentions as Majito's mother. He approaches to check it, but the moment he touches her she begins to dissolve in water, annoyed by her deception, Majito aims her arrow and shoots it. Mahito appears to see something inside a cemetery when a band of pelicans attacks him, opening the door. At that moment a woman arrives with a magic wand that manages to scare away the pelicans. She then performs some sort of ritual and upon seeing the arrow made from the Heron's feather, he understands why the pelicans couldn't eat it. She takes him to her boat and they both sail until they catch a giant fish. During the trip, Majito tells her that he has arrived from above and that he is looking for Natsuko. On the other hand, the woman shows him a mark that she has on her head. Similar to the one Majito has. Upon reaching land, they both rush to cut the fish, which is also for the warawaras, bubble-shaped spirits who eat the entrails of the fish to be able to fly. Majito ends up exhausted and falls asleep. When he wakes up he notices some dolls with faces identical to the old women in his house, and the woman mentions that they are there to protect him. Upon seeing them, Majito soon recognizes the woman as a younger Quirico. Outside Majito I had the starry night when a warawara comes flying to him. Suddenly many arrive there and Kiriko explains that when they mature they fly towards the sky to be reborn, while the little ones watch them. Therefore, the importance of feeding them. When everything seems to be going well, another band of pelicans arrives and begins to devour them. Then a young woman named Himi appears and protects the warawaras from the Pelicans like fireworks. Several of them burn down, but many others manage to be reborn. Later, when Kiriko is sleeping, he comes across a heron in serious condition after Himi's attack. As a result, their entire species is dying. They tried to fly as high as possible with their strong and determined wings, but they have only managed to reach that island. Their chicks have forgotten how to fly and if they eat the Warawara, the fire lady will end up killing them. The pelican's last words are: The sea harbors a terrible curse. Suddenly the birdman arrives, whom Majito ignores while he buries the pelican. He is upset with the Heron for taking his aunt and not wanting to tell her where he is. But Kiriko recommends that they look for Natsuko together, since she must stay to take care of the wara wara. Reluctantly, they both agree to stay together. Before saying goodbye to her, Kiriko hands her doll to Himi, motivating him to do his best. In the underworld, Shouch has carried out an arduous search with all of his workers to find Natsuko, but his efforts have not been successful. Then the old women reveal to him that strange and inexplicable things have always happened in that place. They also believe that the tower in the forest has something wrong that they do not understand. They tell him that an object fell from the sky where there used to be a large pond, but after the shocking roar, it was completely dry after thirty years the forest prospered again and that strange thing ended up buried until the great uncle found it when he saw that It was something outside of what they decided to build the tower around, but as a result many people died or were seriously injured. Furthermore, the great-uncle disappeared around like Majito's mother.

After a year she came back thinner, she remembered nothing and had a big smile. After hearing the story, Shouch decided to search for the missing. On the other hand, the Heron man complains about not being able to fly due to the hole in his beak, so Majito helps close it so that he becomes a Heron again, something that improves the relationship between the two. After some time walking, they reach a house owned by a man and guarded by parakeets that are not ordinary. These parakeets eat people and animals just like the Kanus. The Heron mentions that the teacher brought them and it didn't take long for them to reproduce. To save Natsuko they must go through there. So the Heron decides to distract which gives Majito the opportunity to enter. What he did not expect is to find several parakeets, some with plates and others with knives in their wings. But when they are about to attack Mahito, Himi appears in a burst of fire and burns them. Majito informs her that he is looking for Natsuko, whom the girl recognizes as her sister. Then, she takes his hand and they both arrive at her home, a small house surrounded by flowers. From the outside you can see the tower, which Himi reveals is in many different worlds at the same time. After eating, she takes him to the tower guarded by more parakeets and which also contains numerous doors that lead to many worlds. Upon reaching door number one hundred and thirty-two, Mahito sees his father through the window, just as more of the parakeet approaches. So he takes the knob and opens the door and then closes it without releasing it, because if he releases it he will have no way to return.

When his father sees him in the distance he runs to join him, at which point the parakeets manage to enter and transform into normal parakeets. Then Majito takes the opportunity to go back in and continue searching for Natsuko. Back in the budgie kingdom, Jimmy takes him to the delivery room where Natsuko is. Majito enters her and sees her lying on a bed. On it are several strips of paper. He approaches and begins to talk to him, but at that moment the paper begins to stick to him. And when Natsuko says goodbye he orders her to return immediately and even tells you to hate him. Majito yells at him for the first time, Mom, while the paper does not stop wrapping him, until he is expelled from the room so Himi incinerates the paper, which ends up leaving them unconscious. Short wakes up in what seems like a dream, where he meets the master of the Tower, Natsuko's great-uncle, who is balancing a pile of blocks so that this world will be able to see sunlight one more day. Majito accompanies him through various landscapes until he reaches a giant rock floating in the air.

Then the teacher tells him that all his power comes from said stone, and he proposes that Majito be his successor, since this must be part of his family since it is an agreement that he has with the stone, that that world becomes a beautiful gem or an abomination will depend solely on Majito, if he accepts, and he even offers him some blocks so that he can make harmony prosper. However, Majito notices that they are not wooden stones but rather tombstones, which means that there is evil in them. When Majito wakes up he finds himself chained, while the parakeets make preparations for a banquet.

That seems to be the end of him, if not for the Heron who manages to infiltrate and free him. Outside they discover that Jimmy has also been captured and is being taken to her great-uncle. The parakeet king does it with the sole intention of keeping everything since now the tower is full of them. They both chase the king up the tower until he cuts the stairs, preventing them from reaching him. They go through different worlds until they reach the teacher and leave Jimmy. But when she wakes up, instead of reprimanding and punishing her, her great-uncle grills her. Then he meets Majito again and takes him with him. He shows Majito that in reality the stones are not stained with the evil that he had said. He then asks him not to forget to stack them every three days, that he build a world where generosity, peace and beauty prevail. However, Majito mentions that the self-inflicted wound is proof that he is evil and therefore prefers not to touch the stones. So he prefers to return to his world with Natsuko, whom he now sees as a mother. The great-uncle accepts it, but first asks him to stack the three stones since he can no longer hold up the tower. But suddenly the parakeet king appears upset because the creator has left the destiny of the empire on some stones, so he takes the stones. blocks and try to build the same better world. As a result, it is too unstable and falls, causing the world to begin to divide. With the help of the Heron, Majito and Himi manage to escape, while Natsuko manages to save herself thanks to Kiriko. Upon reaching the door to her world, Mahito is worried that in the future Himi, her mother, will die due to the fire in the hospital. . However, she reassures him that she will feel lucky to have him as her son. They both share a hug before meeting with Natsuko and Quirico, and then leaving for their respective worlds. Accompanied by the parakeets and the pelicans, they manage to get out moments before the tower collapses. La Heron realizes that Majito has taken a stone of power with him and mentions that with time he will be able to forget. Furthermore, the doll that the young Kiriko had previously given him turns into the old Kiriko, and thus the three are reunited with their loved ones. The years after the war, Majito, along with his parents and his new brother, return to Tokyo. Majito has the opportunity to rule in a fantasy world, but he chooses the pain of the real world. That is the lesson of adulthood, the awareness that we cannot live in lands of invented characters and fantastic versions of those we have lost because We are strong enough to live in the real world.
