Manaca Iznaga Tower, legend of love or architecture of surveillance?/¿Torre Manaca Iznaga leyenda de amor o arquitectura de vigilancia?[En-Es]

Hello friends of this lovely hive community, I hope you are all well. Today I want to share with you a recent trip I made to a beautiful place that tells a fascinating story, in addition to being declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, a place that brings together hundreds of visitors from around the world every year.

I am talking about the famous Manaca Iznaga Tower located in the Valley of the Sugar Mills, located in the center of Cuba, more specifically in the municipality of Trinidad, belonging to the province of Sancti Spiritus.

This is the tower of the old San Alejo de Manaca sugar mill, a bell tower and watchtower type, built by Alejo María del Carmen Iznaga y Bórrel in the 19th century although legend has it that it was created due to a love affair between the brothers Pedro and Alejo Iznaga, both in love with the same young woman, deciding to risk their love with the construction of a work that would define the victor. Alejo raised the 45-meter tower and his brother Pedro drilled a 28-meter-deep well. The real objective for which the tower was built was to monitor the sugar plantations. It was designed as a 7-level structure with a geometric shape from square to octagon with large, spacious arches and a wooden staircase from the ground to the top. It is also worth noting that at the top it has a bell that in its time announced the beginning and end of slave labor. With 184 steps made of pure wood, it is an unrivalled viewpoint of the entire valley.

Despite having a slight inclination due to the passage of time, approximately 20 years ago the tower received a restoration that restored all the safety to its wooden floors, which has led to it being declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988.

It is an attractive place for enjoyment, historical knowledge and the architecture of an era that fascinates both Cuban and foreign visitors before such majesty. Do not miss it if you ever travel to Cuba, It is an amazing experience that you must live and if you are afraid of heights it is an adrenaline challenge just to see the splendid landscape that it shows from the top.
