A walk through the history

Hello friends of Hive. Today I want to share with you my experience of the weekend during the tour to one of the most emblematic sites of Havana, the historic military park Morro - Cabaña.

We were welcomed by a guide who gave us the tour and also talked about the history of this place. This capital site is made up of two strongholds of the magnitude of the Castillo de los Tres Reyes del Morro, the most emblematic of the Cuban fortresses started in 1630 by the Italian military engineer Juan Bautista Antonelli and the fortress of San Carlos de la Cabaña named after King Carlos III, is the largest of the military installations created by Spain in America in 1774, cataloged at that time as the masterpiece of the bastioned defensive system.

After the brief explanation we moved to the top of the lighthouse where there is a splendid view of our beloved Havana.

The Morro Castle Lighthouse was built in 1845 on the walls of the Castillo de los Tres Reyes del Morro, which guards the port of Havana. It has a height of 25 meters (82 feet), a focal height of 44 meters (144 feet) and shows two white flashes every 15 seconds, with an octagonal metal dome with crystals designed to guide ships and airplanes. Upon entering, we go up a small door that leads to the ancient spiral staircase, which has 170 steps that take us to a beautiful view of Havana and its imposing bay.

Havana Bay is considered one of the safest bays in the Caribbean and the Americas. It is shaped like a pocket, with a narrow and deep entrance channel. It has a strategic location both geographically and economically due to its confluence with the Florida Straits, the Gulf of Mexico and the Old Bahamas Channel. The Bay has 5.2 square kilometers, a perimeter of 18 kilometers and a water volume of 47 million cubic meters and a depth of nine meters, which from the height of the lighthouse gives the visitor a spectacular view.
