La edificación actual es el resultado de las remodelaciones y ampliaciones de la primitiva iglesia. Es el único templo en Cuba con deambulatorio, lo cual permite recorrerlo sin atravesar la nave central del mismo. En su torre posee cuatro campanas, otro detalle son los pináculos que adornan el exterior de la construcción y le confieren un estilo neogótico sencillo pero distintivo. También son propios de los templos neogóticos los vitrales, en El Ángel hay cinco en la planta principal: los cuatro evangelistas y el Ángel Custodio. En la planta superior están presentes otras quince vidrieras: los doce apóstoles, un Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, otro dedicado al Inmaculado Corazón de María y sobre el deambulatorio uno más del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús. En el coro alto se conserva un pequeño órgano de tubos que no funciona. Otro detalle: es la única iglesia dedicada a los Ángeles Custodios o de la Guarda en toda Cuba. Durante años fue el punto más alto de La Habana.

On the upper floor there are another fifteen stained glass windows: the twelve apostles, a Sacred Heart of Jesus, another dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and above the ambulatory one more of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In the choir loft there is a small pipe organ that does not work. Another detail: it is the only church dedicated to the Guardian Angels in all Cuba. For years it was the highest point of Havana.
