Last Thursday, my group and I made a pilgrimage to the tomb of Sultan Alaidin Riayat Syah Poteumeuroh Daya located in Gampong Gle Jong, or Kuede Kuala Unga, Indra Jaya District, Aceh Jaya, Aceh. Our first goal was actually to pay our respects to one of the religious leaders in Aceh, after the condolences our group went straight to the tomb complex of Po Teumeuroh Daya. People usually make pilgrimages on Mondays and Thursdays.
The tomb of Po Teumeureuhom Daya is one of the revered historical sites in Aceh, especially in the western region. Po Teumeureuhom, or Sultan Alaiddin Ri'ayat Syah, was a king who played an important role in the history of the Aceh Sultanate. He was known as a wise, wise leader, and adhered to the teachings of Islam. His tomb is located on a hill surrounded by the Indian Ocean, pilgrims must climb stairs to get to the tomb. Around the tomb complex there are halls for pilgrims to rest. There are rules for entering the tomb complex such as the rule that you are not allowed to take photos of the tomb, and women who dress sexily are also prohibited from entering.
Pilgrimages to his grave have become a tradition for the people of Aceh, especially to commemorate his services and leadership. Apart from being a historical place, this tomb is also an attractive religious tourism destination for pilgrims and historical researchers. Many come to pray, seek blessings, and explore the wisdom values of this historical relic.
Apart from making pilgrimages, pilgrims can also enjoy natural beauty which is quite pleasing to the eye in the form of a stretch of sea with beautiful islands in the middle.
Located in the Daya area, Aceh Jaya, this tomb is surrounded by a calm and beautiful atmosphere. Visitors can witness the typical architecture of the Acehnese Tomb which is simple but full of meaning. Pilgrimage to the Tomb of Po Teumeureuhom is not just a spiritual journey, but also a form of respect for the historical heritage that has shaped civilization.
