Once Upon a Time... Again: The Nostalgia of 3 Disney Princesses in Live Action /Erase una vez… de nuevo: La nostalgia de 3 princesas Disney en el Live Action [ENG/ESP]

Recently the trailers for the live action of Snow White and Lilo & Stitch were released and that reminded me of certain live actions that I loved, I feel that they appealed to childhood and gave a different touch in their own way. These live actions I want to talk about are Cinderella (2015), Beauty and the Beast (2017) and Aladdin (2019).
Cinderella was directed by Kenneth Branagh, released for 2015, starring Lily James and Richard Madden; the story is based on Clyde Geronimi, Wilfred Jackson and Hamilton Luske's Cinderella and Charles Perrault's Cinderella. Beauty and the Beast was directed by Bill Condon, debuting for 2017, starring Emma Watson and Dan Stevens; based on Linda Woolverton's Beauty and the Beast and Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont's Beauty and the Beast. Finally, Aladdin, debuting for 2019, under the direction of Guy Ritchie, where its stars were Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott and Will Smith, the story is based on Ron Clements and John Musker's Aladdin, Aladdin from The Arabian Nights and The Thief of Baghdad by Michael Powell, Ludwig Berger and Tim Whelan.
The three stories follow the same plot line of the classics, where each one gives a different vision and scenes to the animated ones; we have the young Ella-Cinderella, who lost her mother when she was young, her father remarries in time and then dies, leaving her daughter in charge of her cruel stepmother and stepsisters, leading a difficult life, but following the advice of her late mother: “Be kind and kind”, where one day when she cannot go to the royal ball, her fairy godmother comes to help her and fulfill her wish. At the ball, when the clock strikes 12 o'clock, the magic would vanish, so she runs away, leaving a glass slipper on the way, which would serve for the prince to find her.
With Beauty and the Beast, we have a beautiful young girl who lives in a small French village, book-loving and intelligent, where one day, to save her father, she becomes the prisoner of a beast, who lives in a mysterious castle. As the two interact and get to know each other, the gap between the two becomes shorter and shorter, leaving feelings of love, but everything will be interrupted when Gaston, an arrogant and vain hunter and the people go in search of the Beast, because his desire, besides marrying Belle, is to kill the Beast and be the hero of the story; however, love will be the key to defeat him and break the spell that carries the Beast.
And finally, we have the story of Aladdin, a young thief who lives in the lands of Agrabah, despite his good heart, life has been difficult, but this has not discouraged him from wanting to have something better; his path will intertwine with Princess Jasmine, a young girl who longs for her voice to be heard and not follow the traditions of the kingdom. In order for Aladdin to achieve his dream, he goes on an adventure, to find a magic lamp, which contains the Genie, a mystical being that can grant any wish; with the help of the Genie of the lamp his life will take another course and will test how much his heart is really worth.
In giving a summary of each of the stories, we can see how they remained faithful to the classic children's stories that we all know, adding their touch and with scenery and production design that, in my opinion, were very well executed. I feel that they gave us much more depth in the characters that enriched them in different ways, in the story of Cinderella they did not go through the death of the mother and that gave another nuance to the plot, plus the cast was very successful and delivered the essence of the classics.
As for a negative point, I would say that the appearance of the actress, her waist so small is like very idealistic and even aesthetically I do not feel that it looks good, I do not say it because, if not beautiful or if, but it does not have more realistic standards and knowing everything they made the actress go through to get to that point, it is understood how little good it looks. Although we can not deny the great visual section that is loaded with a beautiful blue dress design, well, in general the whole movie has visual details that enchants and the actress who plays the stepmother I loved, has that air of pride and elegance at the same time.
As for Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin, we also noticed a good visual section and a cast that fit with the classic story, Emma gave us a brave and witty Belle and Naomi with an incredible voice, gave us a Jasmine who seeks that freedom and feel that air of independence that is charged. As in Cinderella, exploring a little more in depth in the characters, especially with the protagonists, we understand more of their lives, without losing the story line of the classic.
Like any movie and, especially in live action, there were many controversies, that if in Beauty and the Beast, there was that Gay character that caused a stir that how are you going to introduce that theme in a story for children? And everything else, which, I didn't feel anything out of tone and detrimental, most of the details were true to the play. I didn't expect Will Smith as the genie of the lamp, even many didn't like that fact, but he did an excellent job, he had that essence of Robin Williams' genius adding his own personality, which gave him more versatility to develop the character.
Anyway, remembering those live actions and seeing the great controversies that have faced the recent live actions, that if the Little Mermaid, the next to be released that is Snow White and all this, coupled with the fact that these films that I mentioned were criticized for not having originality and is only a copy of what is already known, then it made me wonder what is sought when making a remake of a children's story? To return to nostalgia, create a connection with the new generation or simply because they no longer have stories to tell?
Well, it is difficult to please everyone, some want them to be faithful, others want them to give a different perspective, not to include so much, this, that this, that the other, it is an endless debate what one gets on the internet; for me when I saw these live action I really liked the scenery and how they transported us to those animated stories, it gave me nostalgia when I saw those movies in VH, for that reason, these remakes besides evoking nostalgia, should present those emotions in a more modern context, yes, there may be a prince, maybe not, the important thing is to work to achieve your own dreams, to bring novelty to an already known story.
Therefore, I agree with both visions, it should innovate and present us something more modern, more development and depth in the characters, but without leaving or respecting the classic guidelines; I also want to point out that if the character is aesthetically so, it should be so (I'm not talking about the physical aspect, that if the waist marked and that, since they are few realistic) rather I speak of each heroine comes from a part of the world, they transport us to that place, they follow that ethnic diversity that characterize us. There are different princesses, from different parts of the world, with different skin colors, so I don't think they should change the appearance that has characterized them just for the sake of equality, I feel that one thing has nothing to do with the other.
In order not to extend this any longer, I would like to finish by asking what do you think about live action, do you like the ones that follow the line of the classics or with a change in both story and characters?

Hace poco se estrenaron los trailers de los live action de Blancanieves y lilo & Stitch y eso me hizo recordar a ciertos live actions que me encantaron, siento que apelaron a la infancia y dieron su toque distinto a su manera. Estos live action de cual les quiero hablar son la Cenicienta (2015), La Bella y la Bestia (2017) y Aladdín (2019).
Cenicienta fue dirigida por Kenneth Branagh, estrenada para el año 2015, donde tenemos como a protagonista a Lily James y a Richard Madden; la historia está basada en La Cenicienta de Clyde Geronimi, Wilfred Jackson y Hamilton Luske y La Cenicienta de Charles Perrault. La Bella y la Bestia fue dirigida por Bill Condon, debutando para el año 2017, protagonizada por Emma Watson y Dan Stevens; basada en La bella y la bestia de Linda Woolverton y La Bella y la Bestia de Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont. Por último, Aladdín, debutando para el año 2019, bajo la dirección de Guy Ritchie, donde sus protagonistas fueron Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott y Will Smith, la historia se basa en Aladdín de Ron Clements y John Musker, en Aladino de Las mil y una noches y en El ladrón de Bagdad de Michael Powell, Ludwig Berger y Tim Whelan.
Las tres historias siguen la misma línea argumentativa de los clásicos, donde cada una da una visión y escenas distintas a las animadas; tenemos a la joven Ella-Cenicienta, quién perdió a su madre de joven, su padre se vuelve a casar al tiempo y luego muere, dejando a su hija a cargo de su cruel Madrastra y hermanastras, llevando una vida difícil, pero siguiendo el consejo de su difunta madre: “Ser amable y bondadosa”, donde un día al no poder ir al baile real, su hada madrina viene a ayudarla y cumplirle su deseo. En el baile, el reloj al marcar las 12, la magia se desvanecería, por lo que sale corriendo, dejando en el camino una zapatilla de cristal, misma que serviría para que el príncipe pudiera encontrarla.
Con la Bella y la Bestia, tenemos a una joven hermosa quien vive en un pequeño pueblo francés, amante de los libros e inteligente, donde un día, para salvar a su padre, se vuelve prisionera de una bestia, quien habita en un misterioso castillo. A medida que ambos van interactúan y conociéndose, la brecha entre los dos se va acortando cada vez más, dejando brotar sentimientos de amor, pero, todo se verá interrumpido cuando Gastón, un cazador arrogante y vanidoso y el pueblo van en busca de la Bestia, pues su deseo, además de casarse con Bella, es matar a la Bestia y ser el héroe del cuento; sin embargo, el amor será la clave para derrotarlo y romper el hechizo que porta la Bestia.
Y, por último, tenemos la historia de Aladdín, un joven ladrón que habita en las tierras de Agrabah, a pesar de su buen corazón, la vida ha sido difícil, pero esto no lo ha desaminado a querer tener algo mejor; su camino se entrelazara con la princesa Jasmine, una joven que añora que su voz sea escuchada y no seguir con las tradiciones del reino. Para que Aladdín pueda conseguir su sueño, se adentra a una aventura, a encontrar una lampara mágica, que contiene al Genio, un ser místico que puede conceder cualquier deseo; con la ayuda del Genio de la lampara su vida tendrá otro rumbo y pondrá a prueba cuanto en realidad vale su corazón.
Al dar un resumen de cada una de las historias, podemos notar como se mantuvieron fieles a los clásicos cuentos infantiles que ya todos conocemos, agregando su toque y con escenografía y diseño en la producción que, al mi parecer fueron muy bien ejecutado. Siento que, nos dieron mucha más profundidad en los personajes que las enriqueció de distintas maneras, en la historia de la cenicienta no pasaban eso de la muerte de la madre y eso le dio como otro matiz a la trama, además que el elenco fue muy bien acertado y entregaron la esencia de los clásicos.
En cuanto a un punto negativo, diría que la apariencia de la actriz, su cintura tan pequeña es como muy idealista e incluso, estéticamente no se siento que se vea bien, no lo digo porque, si no es hermosa o si, sino que no tiene estándares más realistas y conociendo todo lo que hicieron pasar a la actriz para llegar a ese punto, pues se comprende lo poco bien que luce. Aunque no podemos negar el gran apartado visual que se carga con un diseño de vestido azul hermoso, bueno, en general toda la película tiene detalles visuales que encanta y la actriz que hace de la madrastra me encantó, tiene ese aire de soberbia y elegancia al mismo tiempo.
En cuanto a la Bella y la Bestia y Aladdín, también notamos un buen apartado visual y un elenco que encajo con la historia clásica, Emma nos entrego una valiente e ingeniosa Bella y Naomi con una voz increíble, nos dio a una Jazmín que busca esa libertad y se sienta ese aire de independencia que se carga. Así como en Cenicienta, explorando un poco más a profundidad en los personajes, sobre todo con las protagonistas, que entendamos más de s vida, sin perder la línea argumentativa del clásico.
Como toda película y, sobre todo en los live action, hubo muchas polémicas, que si en la Bella y la Bestia, hubo ese personaje Gay que causo revuelo de que ¿Cómo va a introducir ese tema en una historia para niños? Y todo lo demás, lo cual, no sentí nada fuera de tono y perjudicial, la mayoría de los detalles fueron fieles a la obra. No esperaba a Will Smith como el genio de la lampara, incluso muchos no les cuadraban ese hecho, pero hizo un excelente trabajo, tuvo como esa esencia del genio de Robin Williams agregando su propia personalidad, lo que le dio mayor versatilidad para desarrollar al personaje.
En fin, al recordar esas live action y ver las grandes polémicas que se han enfrentado los recientes live action, que si la Sirenita, la próxima en estrenar que es Blancanieves y todo ello, aunado que estas películas que la menciones fueron criticadas por no tener originalidad y solo es una copia de lo que ya conoce, entonces me hizo preguntar ¿Qué se busca a la hora de hacer un remake de una historia infantil? ¿Volvernos a la nostalgia, crear conexión con la nueva generación o simplemente porque ya no tienen historias que contar?
Pues es difícil complacer a todos, unos quieren que sean fiel, otros que den una perspectiva distinta, que no metan tanta inclusión, que esto, que lo otro, es un debate sin fin lo que uno consigue en internet; para mi cuando vi estos live action me gusto mucho fue la escenografía y como nos transportaron a esos cuentos animados, me dio nostalgia cuando veía esas películas en VH, por tal motivo, estos remake además de evocar nostalgia, deberían presentar esas emociones en un contexto más moderno, que sí, puede que exista un príncipe, puede que no, lo importante es trabajar por alcanzar tus propios sueños, que nos traigan novedad a una historia ya conocida.
Por ello, estoy de acuerdo con ambas visiones, debe innovar y presentarnos algo más moderno, mayor desarrollo y profundidad en los personajes, pero sin salirse o respectando los lineamientos clásicos; también quiero acotar que si el personaje es estéticamente así, debería ser así (no hablo del aspecto físico, que si la cintura marcada y eso, ya que son pocos realistas) más bien hablo de que cada heroína viene de una parte del mundo, nos transportan a ese lugar, siguen esa diversidad étnica que nos caracterizan. Hay distintas princesas, de diferentes partes del mundo, de variados colores de piel, así que no me parece cambiar esa apariencia que las ha caracterizado solo para igualdad, siento que una cosa no tiene que ver con la otra.
Para no alargar más esto, quiero terminar preguntando ¿qué piensa de los live action? ¿les gusta más los que siguen la línea de los clásicos o con un cambio tanto en historia como personajes?

En lo personal estas 3 que compartiste me gustaron muchísimo, también el live action de El rey león, aunque sí me pareció un poco más crudo que en su versión animada, pero me despertó la nostalgia. Me agradan los live action, y me gusta que innoven un poco para que no se haga todo siempre igual, de todos modos, no me gusta cuando pierden la esencia por completo. Es un buen tema para debatir, me encanto el post.
Despues quiero hablar de otros live action que no se enfoca tanto en las princesas, sino historias como la del rey león o la del libro de la selva. En esta oportunidad hable de estas tres porque he sentido que la polémica se ha acentuado es con las princesas y que, extrañamente son las que sufren más cambios. A mi también me gustaron mucho estos live action es como ver los cuentos infantiles en carne y hueso y con la escenografía y el vestuario se la botaron. Muchas gracias 😊

Yo creo que siempre que se haga con respeto a la obra original, se puede lograr un buen live action. De hecho, creo que el de Cenicienta y sobretodo, el de La Bella y La Bestia, fueron películas bastante buenas y muy bien hechas.
Aún no he visto la de Alladin. Pero también he escuchado buenos comentarios.

Exactamente, no entiendo, pueden agregarle profundidad a los personajes sin salirse de los parámetros que ya conocemos de estos cuentos y, siento que le enriquecerían en muchos sentidos. Por ejemplo, en la bella y la bestia me gusto como nos explicaron más el trasfondo de padre de Bella, que como se fueron del lugar por la epidemia, humanizaron más a los personajes. Así que, si se puede hacer buenos live action siguiendo la historia clásica. Muchas gracias por comentar mi post 😊
Exactly, I don't understand, they can add depth to the characters without going out of the parameters we already know of these stories, and I feel they would enrich it in many ways. For example, in Beauty and the Beast I liked how they explained more the background of Bella's father, how they left the place because of the epidemic, they humanized the characters more.
