Male Light Healer - FanArt
Holo Holozing Community!!
How are you doing today? I want to show you this drawing I recently did, it's actually the first male character I've made for Holozing.
I think it's because I'm kind of scared, I don't know why, but I usually don't draw males much. Over the years, compared to the female drawings I've done, males make up less than 10%, so yeah, I need to practice more and do them more often. I'm not very good at drawing males, so this time I tried a portrait of The Male Light Healer .
I made this drawing in Photoshop, and this time I went with a safe lineart because it felt more secure to do so. You'll see why below; I'll share some images of the process.
I think I've figured out why I sometimes sketch with lines and sometimes I don't. It's actually because when I'm not so confident, I sketch lines mainly because I want to get the idea, see how the drawing look, the position, and if it looks good. I think it's good to continue from there. It's very different when I don't do the lines because when I don't do the lines, I just start drawing freely, which is mostly how it goes. Sometimes, for very complicated characters with many elements, I might try sketching first and then improving and working on it gradually.
The second part of this drawing was adding some color. Clearly, I left the outline at the beginning. I usually leave the outline on top a bit and then collapse all the layers later, but for now, I just needed it on top. Underneath that layer, I worked on adding a bit of color, just to have a base layer. The truth is, it wasn't going to be that color I was going to use, but I just needed something selected, so I used it to give it some volume.
After a while, I was fixing more things and adding more colors. I even changed the color I had before, which as I said, wasn't going to work. I also collapsed the layers. Well, I selected two layers, or sorry, I split the outline into two layers. One would be the hair; I painted a flat color right away. The other, I pasted onto what was the clothing and the face, which were on the same layer. I didn't have too many layers to go crazy with; it was better that way. I also added a slightly lower opacity to generate a bit more depth, especially for the skin. I'm going to add some colors to the face to start detailing things more
As the lines progressed, they started to fade. There were actually very few lines left; some details needed to be done. I added the jacket, which reminds me a bit of Abel's from an anime I used to watch. Well, beyond that, there were some other improvements in the face; there were almost no more lines, and there was a bit more realism. For the background, I selected one I had done before that suited the style, and I merged it with what I already had. I didn't focus much on the background.
I fixed some things that I wasn't liking, actually. I think there was a problem with the shading; it looked weird. So, I improved it a bit. Additionally, I added some small gold touches that the character had. The only thing that I think changed a bit was what was on the head, I placed it outside the head because it's attached to the hair.
I think the suit was still lacking, so I improved it a bit more. The head also needed improvement; there were some mistakes, and I improved them gradually by adding some colors, shadows, and other things that I hadn't done yet. Beyond that, although I'm scared of doing men, I'm a bit happier with this result.
To finish, as always, there were details to fix, adjustments of color, touches of shine, and I think some other little things. The hair, which I hadn't done during all this time, I hadn't said anything about it, just the line and the same line with color, and that was all to finish this drawing.
I think you draw male characters very well, I love the baronial features that you have achieved, the eyes, the nose, and the frowning and wide face.

beautiful work, reminds a bit of a Castlevania character 🥰
Thank you so much! I didn't have that in mind while drawing, but yeah, it actually has a bit of that style to it.
