When The Pranks Or Jokes Become Real

Friends hmm, can be the very accommodating and the most interesting people in our lives but let’s be real they can ick the hell out of us. Good friends or really close friends are not always perfect of course and from time to time we irritate each other so much so that the friendship is questioned and we most definitely cross the line.

I have had my own fair share of instances where I have carried a joke too far or crossed my boundaries. When I am made aware of such a situation, I have apologized for them but that is not always enough.

It seems weird saying this again but it seems like anytime there is a hive learners prompt those things have either happened days or weeks ago. This particular one of a joke too far happened to me very recently.

Last week Friday, I had an encounter I did not particularly like. Although, the joke was not carried too far I did not like this at all because I have seen instances of the same joke done to others which did not end up well at all.

So, what happened to me? I have early morning class on Fridays and last week Friday I woke up, took my bath and prepared for my early 8 am class. I was a bit late which I usually am but I got most part of the one-hour lecture.

Fast forward, the one hour class quickly came to an end and when we were supposed to return to our hostels I realized my phone was taken from the chair I left it on. @nhaji01 and I were having a discussion when the lecturer left the class and so I left a chair just beside me. I had taken my mind off it because I necessarily did not expect anyone to pick it up.

We finished our discussion and when I turned to pick my phone it came to my attention the phone was taken. The funny thing was that, the guy that took the phone had the time to remove the phone from the cover. He took the phone and left me the cover hehe.

Immediately, I suspected two of my friends because they are the crazy ones to pull a stunt like this. I realized they were still around so I rushed out to them and made a quick search after I asked them about the phone and they denied having anything to do with it.
I felt they had the phone but I just did not feel right. At this point it was too late to maybe do something in class so we sent a text in our class group saying someone took my phone and they should please return if it is a joke.

There was no positive response so I called my friends again and made it clear to them if the phone was with them they should tell me because quite frankly, I do not like such jokes and I would not want to say or do anything out of place. These guys still insisted it was not with them and I instantly even got more pissed.

My major concern was that I did not want any remorseful apology later on that I just took the phone and this and that happened. Why I was concerned was that yes, I have a lot of important stuff on my phone and with the fault my pc has, I use for phone for literally everything I do. I use it for school, my social life, my financial life and of course for hive.

I have seen some guys claim to jokingly take their friend’s phone before and just like that they gave themselves and the friend issues. They lost the phone and later came back to beg and apologize that they took the friend but they cannot find it and it has been stolen. Of course, this friend was pissed as hell and there were a lot of exchanges. I do not know how they solved that case but I did not want to be put in such a situation.

It has become very expensive to repair phones and I also did not want a situation where the phone is returned with faults.

I went to my friends’ hostel and they had not yet returned from campus. I waited for them and when they got back they gave the phone the phone to me. Honestly, I had a lot to say to them but after reflections and Nhaji telling me not to say anything I decided not to utter a word. It is instances or situations like these that can ruin friendships and I am very close to one of them. It turns out the one I am closest to was not the one who even took the phone and it was our other friend.

So, after I got the phone, I just ignored them both and returned to my hostel. As far as I am concerned, we can play jokes and all but jokes like these that have to do with fragile stuff that can bring great costs, they should be avoided.

This is my experience with a joke too far and a response to the hive learners prompt.
