Minhaj Welfare Foundation
Hello all. This is my second entry to the contest organized by @hivepakistan and @spiritsurge. Thank you for making this available for us all to participate and giving us the opportunity to present multiple entities. You can find the contest here should you be interested in taking part of the contest.
Charities and Non Governmental Organizations have been with us for a very long time and look to be a better part of our future. The very privileged ones and some people who are okay in this life have done well to help the less privileged in our societies. They help these charity and Non Governmental Organizations with donations and other ways they can.
There are a lot of such organizations in Pakistan and to say a lot is probably an understatement because when I made my research of how many active NGOs we have in Pakistan, the result was 10000 - 150000. That’s a lot right 😯?
For this entry, I am writing on the Minhaj Welfare Foundation.
History And What Is The Minhaj Welfare Foundation?
The Minhaj Welfare Foundation is a Non Governmental Organization located in Lahore, Pakistan. The aim of the organization is to support the poor and the needy by helping with their basic needs like health, education, among others.
Dr. Muhammed Tahir ul Qadri is a native of Pakistan and the founder of the Minhaj Welfare Foundation. This organization has been in existence since 1989. Socio economic concerns was a major concern for the father of Dr. Muhammed Tahiti ul Qadri and so this Minhaj Welfare Foundation is in a way a realization of his father’s dreams.
The aim of this organization is to end poverty and it believes that in doing so, all challenges that block people’s path to education must be addressed. The aims of objectives of Minhaj Welfare Foundation can be summarized under the headings; relief, social welfare, education and faith.
Under Relief, the organization aims to relief not just poverty but sickness, distress and suffering of individuals who are in need regardless of their faith or nationality.
Under social welfare, the objective of providing recreational facilities for the public and better conditions of life is the aim.
For education, the organization aims to provide equal opportunities for all, enhance the quality of education in primary and secondary school, develop the current education setup and make education the forefront of the organization.
And for faith, the organization aims to improve education through faith and believes.
What Does The Minhaj Welfare Foundation Do?
1. Water for All.
Pakistan stands at the 30th position among the most countries that are water-deficient. The organization has seen that the lack of available water for everyone especially in some cities of Pakistan is a major hindrance for education. Due to this kids have to travel long distances to get water which sometimes is not even clean.
Through donations and the works of the Minhaj Welfare Foundation, the organization came up with the Water For All project. Donations has helped the organization has built hand pumps and digging wells with the support of the communities. There has been more than 15000 water projects which are benefitting more than a million families.
2. Orphan Care.
There are a lot of orphans which is partly as a result of poverty faced by parents. The aim of the organization is to serve the most disadvantaged and vulnerable children in a sustainable and intensive manner. Children who have no access no shelter, food and clothing are not in school and so the Minhaj Foundation aims to help these children by providing all this and more.
The organization has therefore come up with “Orphan sponsorship” which is a vital lifeline for the several vulnerable young children who do not have the love and support of a family. Donations from people help the foundation to provide kids with shelter, food, water and a whole lot more which ultimately helps them go to school. According to a report by UNICEF, Pakistan is the home to over four million kids.
The orphan home know as the AGOSH provides a family for the vulnerable orphaned children. The AGOSH Aghosh family is a family of 7 all consisting consists of a mother for six children. In these families, their needs are provided.
3. Health Care.
Like I already said, the foundation’s aim is to provide health care for all and the foundation believes that healthcare is a right for all.
Minhaj Welfare Foundation has established free medical camps, small Dispensaries, ambulance services and mobile surgeries. The welfare has dispersed teams to help poor and needy families who are faced with health difficulties.
The Minhaj Welfare Foundation through its health care scheme runs eye camps where trained surgeons carry out cataract surgery on thousands of patients. Through this they have been able to prevent many mothers from losing children at birth, helped young children recover from curable diseases and saved a lot of lives.
4. Food.
Since the inception of the Minhaj Welfare Foundation in 1989, about three million people have been provided with food and water.
Food is a major problem that affects people of not only Pakistan but the entire world and so the foundation knows that to help children attend school freely, food problems has to be solved.
5. Emergency Relief.
The Minhaj Welfare Foundation has made provisions in its work to be able to provide emergency welfare for affected people.
With the earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria, Minhaj foundation has sent teams to the country to help the injured and the affected individuals.
Till date, the people on ground along with other organizations and the authorities of Turkey and Syria are looking for people that are stuck.
In addition to immediate response efforts provided by the team sent to Turkey and Syria, long-term rebuilding efforts are underway to help affected communities recover and get back on their feet.
6. Pakistan Floods - Relief.
The monsoon rains and floods wreaked havoc in Pakistan taking more than 1200 lives of which about about 500 children. As a result of this a lot of people in Sindth, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, among others are without shelter, food and other things.
Donations have therefore enabled the Minhaj foundation to provide affected people of this flood with relief.
7. EDU Care.
Of course the main objective is to provide relief through Education and so the foundation which has more than 609
educational facilities aims at promoting education, developing self-consciousness and providing intellectual training to the younger generations.
The goal of the foundation is to also impart spiritual, moral, professional and scientific guidance to make productive members of society through the Edu Care. More than 250,000 student scholarships have been processed and given to students who deserve it.
There’s the Minhaj University, the institute of Tehfeez, Institur of Research, among others.
8. Community Care.
Doing all this without empowering the community would not be very helpful and so as a means to help the entire nation, the Minhaj Welfare Foundation has the community care. The foundation believes that a cohesive community where everyone shares common goals and have a sense of belonging is a good one.
As a result, the foundation has tried to promote community cohesion.
9. WOICE.
WOICE which stands for Women’s Ownership, Intellectual Collaboration, and Empowerment is a commitment to ensure that women have equal opportunities as men do.
Because of WOICE, the Minhaj Welfare Foundation is directly supporting our
young girls into education. This is vital to transform their lives and secure their futures by giving them a lot of options. The Minhaj Foundation has built girl-only schools and colleges with boarding facilities to ensure that girls can have access to quality education and vocational training centres. All this done as a result to further develop their skills.
10. Mawakat - E - Madina.
The Mawakat E Madina has been in inception for several times and dates back to the time of a Prophet Muhammed. He did this to balance their finances and help the economic life of him and his companions after they migrated to Medina and faced economic imbalance.
In the present day, the Mawakat E Madina
programme is with the objective of providing relief to the struggling front line key workers, as well as those who work for daily wage, and those suffering from the onslaught of an economic crisis.
Under these circumstances, where the government cannot provide sufficient relief, the foundation has taken it upon itself to share their wealth and provide the necessary support to brothers and sisters. The Minhaj Welfare Flundation’s Mawakhat-e-Madina programme is aims at improving the lives of key front line workers; those who are financially incapable.
This and many more are some of the good works of the Minhaj Welfare Foundation. The foundation is not only limited to Pakistan but to the entire world as we’ve seen in the case of the emergency relief where teams have been sent to aid Turkey and Syria.
The Minhaj Welfare Foundation has a registered organization in the UK licensed somewhere in 2002. With these it is doing so much for for Pakistans and the world at large.
Thank you.
