Is It A Good Thing To Fly Freely Like Birds? - Freedom
Wow, I feel like it's been forever I took part in the featured prompts. It has been due to some reasons but I am glad to be taking part again this week. The second prompt of the week is about "too much freedom". Here are my thoughts.
Is there such a thing as freedom? You'd be surprised by what and how much some people have to say. Are we living in a world where we think we are free but we actually aren't. When we have people doubting the existence of freedom, there is no need even mentioning 'too much freedom". This reminds me of an episode from the series power book 2 where Tariq and his course mates argued about free will. Some were of the view that, everything we do is pre ordained and others disagreed.
I for one do not really know how I would define freedom or even too much of it. Is freedom when we are allowed to do what we want, when we want to do? Freedom could be said to be first coined from slavery after slavers got their freedom from their masters. Freedom could be parents allowing their kids do what they want or allowing them to make their own decisions.
We have the freedom to do what we want when we reach the legal age of 18 in most countries. But even that freedom has its limitations. There’s the freedom to speak but this free speech is not absolutely free. If you’ve been paying attention, there’s a lot that can go wrong if you don’t think hard about what you say and to who.
Just last year, some high school students made videos disrespecting the president of Ghana and calling him all sort of names due to how badly run the country is. What happened to them? They were suspended by their school and a lot of parliamentarians called them untrained and very disrespectful. It took the intervention of the president they talked about to save them from suspension. Where’s the free speech?
For the opposing party of course, they simply loved this. Cos on hand hand, they argued that even kids see how messed up the country is and that they were allowed free speech to say what they want. It’s even probably why the president intervened on their behalf. I wouldn’t be surprised cos let’s face it. These politicians only think about themselves.🙂
It’s very evident there’s nothing like total freedom even if we do agree there’s freedom. What do I think about total freedom? 🤔
As far as I am concerned, total freedom can’t exist and shouldn’t exist. We’re humans and as long as we care about what others think and know we are responsible for our actions, total freedom can’t exist.
Total freedom means you’re allowed to do what you want no matter what it is and bear no consequences. We live in a world guided by rules and regulations. There’s religion too and those 2 simply limit our freedom. Would it be cool to have people commit murder and not face any consequences? Would it be cool to have people steal and not answer for it? I doubt we’d want this to happen.
When too much freedom is given, it can have effects on a lot of people. Children given too much freedom from their parents could end up the best or the complete worst with no regard for authority. We’ve seen instances where very spoilt kids do not really care about what others think and think they can do what they want. Same can be said about kids that have gone wayward too.
Although all this cannot be attributed to too much freedom, it is a factor.
For me, I wouldn’t want too much freedom cos answering to authority puts me in check and makes me responsible.
Thank you.
Exactly, even freedom of speech is not free. In my country Nigeria, there are limitations to what you air out especially on a broadcast house
Hmm not sure this can ever be changed. Freedom of speech has its limits and that’s ironic considering it has the word free
Yeah, the limitations will always be there
Facts bro. Let’s just hope they don’t become too much
Even you should insist of freedom, you should make sure you are not infringing on others rights whilst exercising your freedom.
