Why fathers are not friendly with their daughter’s boyfriend at first sight…

A lot of us can relate to the disapproval from fathers towards their daughter’s partners while it seems like the most inappropriate thing to do there are some factual reasons behind this cliche. Let’s dive into this skeptical reason.

Impression: first impressions matter a lot, when a dad who loves his daughter meets his daughter's partner for the very first time they expect to see a good-looking, well-dressed man and a well-cultured man.
Where I come from in West Africa when going to meet your in-law and you have a bad haircut trust me the father has already disliked you or you have your ear pierced.
Whether your intention is pure or not towards their daughter they don’t want to know because they already see you as an irresponsible man who can handle a family.

Protection: Naturally father possesses this manly instinct to be protective especially when it comes to the females around them(wife, children; female child). They easily detect danger from a man to their daughter so they act protective.
When I was in senior secondary school I remember having a girlfriend along the line her father knew and had to come to school to report me to all the teachers in my school and he didn’t even blame his daughter like I was the only one in the relationship since then I never had any relationship till I graduated.

Fear: The fear of losing their daughter to another family for almost forever makes it very hard for the father to be gentle with their daughter’s partner.
I attended a wedding about some months ago and the reaction that came from the father when it was time for him to hand over his daughter to her husband was so emotional he was crying and had to tell the groom to return his daughter if he had stopped loving her instead of maltreating her with tears rolling down from his cheek this scene almost made me want to cry also.
Fathers aren’t always as hard as we have imagined them to be

Expectations: for some families, before you can be accepted as their in-law you need to meet their standard or more if not they intentionally drive you out with their attitude towards you.
As we see in some movies and reality if a lady’s family is financially buoyant and a lady has decided to go for a common man they disagree and advise their daughter to go for other men some even make sure they get married to their friend's son( planned marriage).

In conclusion, not all these points are applied to all men. Men just want the best for their daughters so they won’t go into the wrong hands. If truly their daughter’s boyfriend has good intentions with time they’ll get to be cordial without any stress
