The island of Gran Canaria in the archipelago of the same name is the roughest and most rugged. It has a really abrupt orography of volcanic origin, and except for the coastline the roads are winding and narrow, as you can see in the photo, a fact that keeps most tourists from venturing inland. And this is good for the island.
