Around The World: Challenge - #44/3
The highest mountain in Spain with 3.715mt is the Pico del Teide. It is situated in the centre of the island of Tenerife in the Canary archipelago. It is the only place on the islands where snow can sometimes be seen in winter. Access to the summit is restricted and permission must be requested from the National Parks three months in advance, depending on the time of year. You can go up on foot or by cable car, if you choose the latter option you also have to walk for about 45 minutes. Going up on foot from the base will take between 5 and 6 hours depending on your physical condition. If the day is clear you can see almost all the islands that make up the Canary archipelago.

I have already read something about that mountain. I also read somewhere that the Canary Islands are perhaps the only place in the world where you can go through almost all climate zones in a few days.

You are right, what is more, sometimes the four seasons happened to be un a single day. I experienced in Gran Canary island to be in the coast in tropical climate, 30º celsius, and two hours later being in the Roque Nublo at 0º celsius in 2.000 mts.
:-)
I have been in Tenerife last November! I miss so much those incredible landscapes!
Hi @xrayman
Many thanks for your comment.
I'm in love with Canary Islands. I was last December in Lanzarote, and I'm waiting for a new holiday to come back.
That is so cool! I'm so very happy for all the restrictions placed on the mountain re: visitors. I watched a documentary on Mt. Everest. It's turned into an absolute garbage dump because of all the mountaineers leaving behind all used and unnecessary equipment from tents to O2 bottles. There was supposed to be a "clean up" project started if the money was able to be raised. So I don't know if that took place.
That would be awesome to be up there and able to see most of all the islands.
Thanks for sharing!
Many thanks for comenting @jeridawn
At the moment the Teide is very clean, specially due to the limit of visitors that may reach it. The cable car sometime works, sometimes not, and this also helps because the 80% of people that reach the summit use this option.
Sometimes i believe that the 'democratization' of tourism is not a great business for the planet.
Hi there @xaviduran
I totally agree with you!
My city has opted to jump on that band wagon of tourism. They have so many new hotels and really pushing the tourism stuff. The more restaurants we have the more they need all of the on hand employees making minimum wage and no chance of advancement. There have been so many companies that wanted to actually put in a new business that have decided to go someplace else because our city wouldn't help them out with the taxes and whatnot. That could have meant a lot of money for our citizens. I guess if I don't like it I need to move right? LOL
In the new 'world tourism order', cities have become theme parks, and are in the hands of airbnb and low-cost airlines, all of them unscrupulous companies, only looking at their financial bottom line. Zero ecological conscience, zero social conscience, zero empathy...
Many thanks for your comment.

Oh get this...a fellow with some $$$$ decided to put in a water park 10 miles from my house. He reached an agreement with the city, which the city in turn put in a water pipeline ( we are always in a drought), costing millions of dollars. Well a hotel put in a nice resort next to the park. They opened even before the park, for all of 1 summer. The city pulled out and other backers pulled out. Needless to say, the park closed, and was demoed in the same year, along with the hotel. The hotel was only supposed to be 2 story, but actually put in 3 stories. It started sinking and had to be closed. And a fire broke out in the hotel soon after. Man, talk about crazy crazy stuff for the tourist bucks. 🤨😵💫
This is a clear and typical case of corruption. Ask for the politician who give the permission to build that disaster.
Haha,. There's no one willing to admit to that !
