Top Tourist Attractions of Saint Petersburg (15 Images)
On July 19, I had a bicycle trip to the historic district of St. Petersburg and photographed the most impressive tourist attractions of the city.
The Hermitage, a view from Vasilyevsky Island. The perfect summer sky, oak leaves, granite parapet of the Neva River embankment, and walkers blurred in the foreground. 🙂
The Hermitage is one of the biggest and most visited art museum in the world, established in the end of the XVIII century.
Peter and Paul Fortress, founded in 1703 by Peter the Great. Perhaps, my favorite place in the city. I will make a separate reportage from there soon.
Palace Square is the heart of the historic district. These are the Alexander Column and the facade of the Hermitage. A view from the Arch of General Staff Building.
The Arch is a masterpiece by itself and serves as the gates for walkers following from Nevsky Prospect to Palace Square and the Neva River with its drawbridges.
Illuminated drawbridges at night when they open the way for ships coming from the Gulf of Finland are another top attraction of Saint Petersburg. I'll show pictures in one of the next posts.
Boat excursions along the rivers and canals are included in any tour program St. Petersburg. This is a busy part of the Moyka River at the intersection with Nevsky Prospect.
St. Isaac Cathedral is probably the most photographed landmark of the city. Every traveler visits its colonnade at the base of the dome to see the city from above.
This is also St. Isaac Cathedral in the painting.
People of St. Petersburg and their traditions are a tourist attraction too. Other Russians believe that Petersburgers are polite, friendly, and generally people of culture. (There are also accusations of snobbery 😄).
Church of the Savior on Blood by Griboedov canal. Many foreign travelers dream to see exactly this colorful architectural creature.
Saint Petersburg is the city of museums. The Hermitage is the most famous of them. The Russian Museum and Kunstkamera are other popular choices. Russian Ethnographic Museum (on the photo above) is in the top list too.
Kazan Cathedral, another iconic landmark of Saint Petersburg is located in the busiest part of the central city avenue, Nevsky Prospect. And this is a view from behind, from one of calm backstreets.
Visiting roofs of the old city - another dream of many tourists in St. Petersburg.
Famous Ulitsa Zodchego Rossi is decorated by these colonades on the both sides, and leads to Alexandrinsky Theatre where tourists watch Russian ballet.
If you have some money left after Russian ballet, you can visit historic shop Magazin Kuptsov Yeliseyevykh to pay 10x for some shit...
This summer, the city is full of street musicians, and they are one more attraction of the city known as the city of culture and art. Flocks of tourists and locals gather around them to enjoy popular Russian (and foreign) rock and pop songs. I posted a separate photo reportage dedicated to this topic a month ago.
Old Saint Petersburg is a big place and you, as a traveler, need a week at least to explore it. So my list isn't that full but what I have shown could be a half-day program for a city visitor.
Thank you for stopping by! Hope you liked the photos. 😎

I suspect the word "pump" may have some other meanings unknown to me (the shorter the word, the older it is!) Just in case, I'll clarify that it was a bicycle pump, haha
and not the least: you've made an excellent, useful post about iconic spots of the city, everything is correct, and clearly systematized ... I'm sure that it will not go unappreciated and will be chosen for the pinmapple digest. 👍

more !PIZZA as an extra... sadly the post isnt there.. 😐
It isn't there. Anyway, I thought about changing my Hive mode to microblogging - Liketu, Dbuzz + b&w (which doesn't require too big posts either). (+ Gods on Chain of course).
