11/18 on WR in Mythic with Aggro Deception. I Keep Feeding on Light
An MJ legendary pack + Core leggie this time π
I had almost the same deck as I did a week ago, designed to beat Aggro Light and Nature. I encountered 7 Aggro Light players during this WR and won 6 of them. π I also played against my worst matchup, Control Light, and took over π€
Deck code: GU_1_2_CCQCCQCCmCCmCDDCDDIAlBDtBDtBEsBEsCCMIClIClKCiKCiKCZKCZKCbKCbGBnGBnKCnKCnICHICHKCsKCsCAJCAJ
A week ago, I told that I couldn't fill the last slot of my deck - I could't find the perfect card to be #30. This time, I tried Counterfeit, Lady Marcella, and my last choice was Hunting Trap influenced by a talk with @phoenixskye - not instead of one of Muggings but in addition to them.
This is when I recollected about Hunting Trap:
The guy had Over the Line and hit me with their hellish guard twice.
How to Play the Deck against Aggro Light and Nature
- Mulligan's best choices: Bound by Her Will, Switch Duelist, Armor Lurker, Beguiling Blade. Mugging is good too.
- Steal a 1-strength creature ideally at your turn 2.
- Use Beguiling Blade / Blade Borrower + Bound by Her Will to steal bigger creatures like Guild Enforcer.
- Use Beguiling Blade / Blade Borrower to make strength = 0 and, then, hit with Mugging to remove the enemy creature and get 3 1/1 Rogues as the result
- Steal strength to clear the board without losses (with Switch Duelists too).
- Kill them all before they buffed: (almost) never hit the face at the beginning, only keep clearing the board.
- Think about making damage 1 with Makeshift Shiv before using Mugging: as the result, you can get an extra one or two 1/1 Rogues on your side of the board.
- Having 2 Makeshift Shiv is crucial: you can break protection with it as well as kill low-mana creature asap - Aggro Light and Nature have too many buffs. When needed, hit the face with Makeshift Shiv to win the favor race for possession of an important card from Sanctum.
Results
Domain | I won | I lost |
---|---|---|
Light | 7 (6 Aggro, 1 Control) | 1 (1 Aggro) |
Nature | 3 | 2 |
War | - | 1 |
Magic | 1 | - |
Deception | - | 2 |
Death | - | 1 |
1 loss to Nature was a pure morning blockage in my head - at the decisive moment, I dropped a card I didn't mean to drop... π€‘ Such things mustn't happen π
Mana 6 Gamescape
This is how things look for Aggro Light (and Nature) by mana 6:
Another typical scenario:
Most Annoying Defeat
Control Deception with 2 Witherfingers and 2 Demos. Why did devs create Witherfingers? To let people to play 4 OP creatures instead of 2?
Honorable Win - Magic
Beating Mage with Deception is always honor for me. I use the following tactic: hit a Mage hard as early as possible with hidden creatures Armor Lurkers/Switch Duelists - before potential Shaped Blast appears. Finish the Mage with buffed hidden Guild Enforcers/Heroic Brawlers.
Most Honorable Win - Control Light
Beating Control Light even better. When I saw Heal god power, I was ready to capitulate. However, things went well and the guy had a deck without Lysander's Mercy. The game lasted for 16 turns...
The last turn:
My creatures were paralyzed by Lips Are Sealed for long but Heroic Brawlers kept buffing other creatures. They were hit by Eucos in Eclipse as well (or even two).
Most Boring
Killed with a relic damage 14 super early, so dull:
Most Intriguing
That guy with an original Aggro Death deck:
6 games, 83% winrate.
They hit the face with Avatar of Death and co and, then, cast Over the Line and finished me.
Last WR MJ Packs
Considering this is my second Heirloom Retriever, I feel good about this rare pack.
Alika, Scarlet Fool Thief... What a silly card...
Each turn, she redistributes power from the strongest to the weakest, including enemy creatures. Playing a card that regularly buffs enemy creatures?.. No, thank you. π
But I will hold it since I collect Deception. Hope devs will improve this card one day.
Happy End
Hope to get a better leggie for this WR. Helmna will do... Can you hear me, Ludia and Anubian gods? ππ

Excellent post! Love the strategy discussion and deck match-up guides. I just picked up 2x ludian thespians to give a variant of this deck a try.

Nice! Hunting Trap is good against Control Light too when they put down a huge Archpriest
