Skeleton's Icy Embrace

We're well in the throes of summer, here. Though the days are beginning to get a little shorter, they're still long, and they're still hot. Quite frankly, it's the perfect time for some cold brew.

Cold brew coffee is a type of coffee that is made by steeping ground coffee in water at cool temperatures for an extended period. Unlike regular coffee, which is brewed with hot water, cold brew coffee does not produce as much acidity or bitterness, resulting in a smoother and milder flavour. Cold brew coffee can be served as a concentrate that is diluted with water or milk, or as a ready-to-drink beverage that is chilled, poured over ice, or mixed with other ingredients. Cold brew coffee takes about 12 to 24 hours to brew, depending on the desired strength and taste.

Of course, I'm here for you with a Skeleton Brew take on cold brew: Skeleton's Icy Embrace

Ingredients

  • 1 cup coarsely ground Skeleton Brew's "Bone Chilled" roast coffee (a cold brew roast)
  • 4 cups cold filtered water
  • 1/4 cup simple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

Step 1: The Chilling Ritual

Embrace the icy allure of the Skeleton's Icy Embrace—a cold brew sensation that combines the smoothness of Skeleton Brew's Bone Chilled roast with a touch of sweetness. Begin by combining the coarsely ground coffee and cold filtered water in a large jar or pitcher, stirring gently to ensure all the coffee is saturated.

Step 2: The Timeless Rest

Let the coffee rest, covered, at room temperature for 12-16 hours, allowing the flavors to develop and the magic to unfold. During this time, the Bone Chilled roast will release its captivating essence, resulting in a rich and refreshing cold brew.

Step 3: The Awakening

After the brewing time has elapsed, strain the cold brew concentrate through a fine-mesh sieve or coffee filter into a clean jar or pitcher, discarding the used coffee grounds. The liquid extracted will be strong and concentrated, ready to be transformed into the Skeleton's Icy Embrace.

Step 4: The Sweet Symphony

In a small bowl, combine the simple syrup and vanilla extract, stirring until well blended. This sweet symphony of flavors will enhance the cold brew, adding a touch of indulgence and depth. Add the prepared simple syrup and vanilla extract mixture to the cold brew concentrate, stirring gently to ensure they are well combined.

Step 5: The Icy Oasis

Fill a glass with ice cubes, creating a chilly oasis for your Skeleton's Icy Embrace to flourish. The ice will keep the drink refreshingly cool, intensifying its invigorating appeal.

Step 6: The Icy Embrace

Pour the cold brew concentrate over the ice cubes, allowing it to mingle and dance with the icy coldness. Experience the enchanting embrace of flavors as the smoothness of the Frostbitten Bones cold brew combines with the gentle sweetness, creating an elixir that both rejuvenates and satisfies.

Step 7: The Garnished Finale

Garnish your Skeleton's Icy Embrace with a mint sprig, adding a touch of elegance and a nod to the invigorating flavors within. This garnish serves as a reminder of the delightful journey your taste buds are about to embark on.

Step 8: Sip with Skeleton's Delight

Raise your glass and savor the Skeleton's Icy Embrace—a captivating blend of cold brew smoothness and sweet enchantment. Let each sip transport you to an icy sanctuary, where the chilling allure of Skeleton Brew meets the invigorating charm of a cold brew creation. Hee! Thank you! And yes, it definitely was strong, but the hazelnut syrup really smoothed it out. I'm suddenly quite glad that no one else in the house drinks coffee.

I had always been very curious about how cold coffees were prepared, obviously in the coffee shops where they are prepared you just see the product and that's it, so thank you very much for taking the time to share this recipe with us.

You're welcome! One of the really nice things about brewing in this method is that the coffee is less acidic than traditional brewing. And great for a hot day!

I got hooked when I saw the hazelnuts syrup and vanilla extract realising it's not just a "dark coffee" but it's flavoured too. 😊 And I like that the process makes it less acidic and reduce bitterness.

Do you prepare yours overnight? Because 6-12hrs is a long waiting period. I see you used a storage jar there, how long does it's freshness last if one is to consider preparing a good amount and store it in a fridge?

Thanks for sharing! ✨

Yes, I let this sit overnight, usually for 12-18 hours. It's a long, long time, so one must have patience.

It has a really good shelf life! I'll normally finish mine in a few days, but it should be able to be refridgerated for a couple of weeks. And yes, the hazelnut and vanilla really do put it over the top. 😀

I've never prepared this type of coffee on my own but I've had it once while in school. The day was very hot and I needed something to calm my brain and mind and my friend took me to a coffee stand in school where I got to taste icy coffee. It was a heavenly experience.

The first time I ever tried iced coffee I wasn't impressed, but it really did grow on me over time. There is indeed a coffee for all seasons!

Ohhhhh! That looks like coffee that will give me a jump start! I do like iced coffee, but, I prefer it on the darker side. I have never tried hazelnut in it. I might have to give it a go.

Congratulations, Victor! Your vision is happening!

My morning is definitely filled with hot coffee, but by mid day on the weekend when I'm putzing aboot the house, this is a nice drink to sip on indeed.

I don’t know if I’ve had a “cold brew” coffee yet, unless they do that to make ice coffee which I don’t think they do. I’ll have to give this a try! Minus the simple syrup though, I don’t like to add sugar to my coffee, only milk. Looks delicious dude!

Thanks!

Cold brew and iced coffee are indeed different; iced coffee is a "traditional" coffee poured over ice.

I normally wouldn't hawk my own goods here, but if you'd really like to try a flavourful cold brew, I do have one here - https://skeletonbrew.one/products/bone-chilled. 'tis very nummy! (and yeah, I'm biased)
