bone tired: 5 Minute Freewrite: Monday

Antonio was complaining of bone tired. In addition to that he felt a lot of general weakness and sometimes he could not even breathe in a natural way. I had this case in a medical office when I was working as an orthopedic doctor in the hospital. Antonio was a 40 year old patient. He had a history of type I diabetes. In view of the clinical picture that Antonio presented, I decided to leave him hospitalized in order to order laboratory tests to reach a better diagnosis. During his stay in the hospital his health condition worsened. When I got the results of his lab tests his hemoglobin was too low by five which gave me a sign that he might have a hematological disease.

He had to be transferred to an emergency room. Since the hemoglobin tended to drop and he began to present palpitations and bone tired. Mr. Antonio's case did not fall under my jurisdiction since I am an orthopedic surgeon. I referred the case to a hematologist and studies began, including a lumbar puncture to detect if we were in the presence of leukemia. The blood transfusions continued for six weeks until the results came back. For his family it was a very stressful time, their children cried and prayed to God that their father would survive.

Finally the long awaited result came. The hematologist notified his family that Antonio suffered from leukemia and that he needed a bone marrow transplant. His daughter Lisbeth was the one who donated the marrow for her father. It was a stressful time for the family, but they achieved their goals. Mr. Antonio underwent his bone marrow transplant and his recovery was little by little, the symptoms that were bothering him began to diminish, the bone fatigue almost disappeared, the muscular fatigue gradually disappeared, the hemoglobin increased until it reached twelve and it was a complete success. She spent many months in the hospital until she was finally discharged.

His family is grateful to me for the unconditional support I gave to his father. Mr. Antonio has been transplanted for many years and is currently in good health. We maintain constant communication and his children always visit my office to inform me about his health. Proud to have helped this gentleman.

Antonio vivía quejándose de cansancio oseo. Aunado a eso sentida mucha debilidad general e inclusive no podía en algunas ocasiones respirar de una forma natural. Este caso lo tuve en consulta médica cuando trabajaba como médico traumatologo en el hospital. Antonio era una paciente de 40 años de edad. Con antecedentes de diabetes tipo I. Su madre ya fallecida padeció la enfermedad, En vista del cuadro clínico que presentaba Antonio decidí dejarlo hospitalizado con la finalidad de ordenar exámenes de laboratorio para llegar a un mejor diagnostico. Durante su permanencia en el hospital su estado de salud empeoraba. Al tener los resultados de sus exámenes de laboratorio su hemoglobina estaba demasiada baja en cinco lo cual me daba una señal que podía estar presentando alguna enfermedad hematológica.

De emergencia tuvo que ser trasfundido. Ya que la hemoglobina tendía a bajar y comenzó a presentar palpitaciones y cansancio oseo. El caso del señor Antonio no me competía ya que soy medico traumatólogo. Remití el caso a un hematólogo y comenzaron los estudios inclusive se le hizo una punción lumbar para detectar si estábamos en presencia de una leucemia. Las transfusiones de sangre siguieron realizándose durante seis semanas hasta que llego el resultado. Para su familia fueron momentos de mucha tensión sus hijos lloraban y pedían a Dios que su padre sobreviviera.

Por fin llego el tan esperado resultado. El hematólogo notificó a sus familiares que Antonio padecia de una leucemia y en su caso había que practicarle un trasplante de médula. Su hija Lisbeth fue la que donó la médula para su padre. Fueron meses de mucho estrés para esa familia pero se lograron los objetivos. El señor Antonio se le realizó su trasplante de médula y la recuperación fue poco a poco los síntomas que lo acachaban comenzaron a disminuir el cansancio oseo casi no lo sentía, la fatiga muscular fue desapareciendo paulatinamente, la hemoglobina subió hasta lograr llevarla a doce y fue todo un éxito. Pasó muchos meses hospitalizado hasta que por fin fue dada de alta.

Su familia agradecida conmigo por el apoyo incondicional que le brinde a su padre. El señor Antonio tiene muchos años que le practicaron el trasplante y actualmente goza de buena salud mantenemos una comunicación constante y sus hijos siempre me visitan a mi consultorio para informarme sobre su salud. Orgulloso de haber ayudado a este señor.
