5 Minute Freewrite - Community Organizer

Everything seemed lost in the town of Uparal de Santa Lucia in the state of Miranda. In my beginnings as a surgeon, I was just graduated, I arrived to that town. And I found that community in a mess, there was no one to take care of the community, there was no community organizer. The most frightening thing for me was that I was going to be in the medical center of that town, but there was no security force to guard me. I had heard so many stories of robberies and kidnappings in that area.

Until I wrote a letter to the director of health at that time who lived in the capital. In which I stated my reasons why if they did not solve in time I was going to request to be changed to another community where I could have security from a state agency, in this case a guard or police.

A few days later, while I was at home, I received a letter from the director of health informing me that my request would be taken into account and that they would send a permanent guard at the medical center to watch over me while I went for my consultations and that I would remain in that place. They would also send a community organizer to evaluate the needs of the community and how they would attend the medical consultations. My stay in that region was for three years and it totally changed, it became a well organized community and it was worth staying there for three consecutive years. We formed a great working team.

Todo parecía perdido en la población de Uparal de Santa Lucia del estado Miranda. En mis inicios como medico cirujano, estaba recién graduado, llegue a esa población. Y encontré esa comunidad hecha un desastre no había quien atendiera la comunidad , no había un organizador comunitaria. Lo más que me atemorizaba era que iba a estar en la medicatura de ese pueblo residenciado pero no había ningún cuerpo de seguridad que me custodiara. Había escuchado tantas historias de robos y secuestros en esa zona.

Hasta que redacte una carta al director de salud de esa época que residia en la capital. En la cual exponía mis motivos por lo cual si no solucionaban a tiempo iba a solicitar ser cambiado para otra comunidad donde pudiera tener seguridad de algún organismo del estado, en este caso un vigilante o policía.

A los pocos días estando en mi casa recibí una correspondencia donde el director de salud me informaba que seria tomada en cuenta mi petición y que destacarían en la medicatura atención permanente para que me custodiaran mientras pasaba las consultas y permaneciera en ese lugar. Asimismo enviarían un organizador comunitario para que evaluara las necesidades de la comunidad y como asistirían a las consultas médicas. Mi estadía en esa región fue por tres años y cambio totalmente se convirtió en una comunidad bien organizada y valió la pena permanecer allí por tres años consecutivos. Formamos un gran equipo de trabajo.
