Fame And Fury|| A Tale Of Ambition And Deceit.

This movie came in highly recommended and as with every other Nigerian movie, I had my doubts. For over a month I stalled even with the incessant pressure to see the movie.

However, after a friend walked up to me and sent the movie into my phone, I opted to see it. This was after I exhausted all the movies on my phone of course.

Cast

Bimbo Ademoye as Daberechi

Daberechi was a celebrity actress who was nearing the peak of her career when she met Paul. Before now, she lived the life many ladies wish to live but when it was time to make the major decision, she chose her career over the marriage to a partner who doesn't support her passion.

This character was a proper portrayal of perseverance, patience and love. Even when she noticed the red flags she still turned a blind eye. Many people would run for their dear lives after noticing the very first red flag because why stay when you're seeing the signs?

Daniel Etim Effiong as Deolu

Deolu was an embodiment of a rich heir with specific demands. He was in a somewhat perfect relationship with Daberechi but after Deberechi insisted on continuing her career, things got messy.

Uzor Arukwe as Paul

Paul started off as Deberechi’s staunch admirer and then breezed his way into her life. From the onset, I knew something was off with him and his brazen display of admiration because it just didn't seem right. Even when he was embarrassed a few times, he still kept up with his ass kissing act. Oh how I dislike shameless ass kissers.

Omeche Oko as the manager

This cast reminded me so much of myself as a friend. She was supportive and looked out for Daberechi both as a manager and a friend. She also didn't hesitate to point out certain glaring red flags that Daberechi chose to be oblivious to. In general, she was a good friend and a fine ass manager.

My Opinion

The characters in this movie did a good job with their roles. Somehow, probably from past experiences with Nigerian movies, I envisaged what, how and to what extent these characters were going to act. Take Uzor Arukwe for instance, his presence alone in the movie gave me a hint that there was going to be some form of violence in the movie and I wasn't exactly wrong.

The movie's plot as a whole is a very relatable one. More light was thrown on some of the things people go through in real life. Imagine having to forfeit a career you spent so many years building just to become a housewife and a baby making machine.

When it comes to dilemmas like this, different people have their different opinions. This made me ask a few ladies around me what they would do in such a situation and they had a variety of answers. While some people vowed that they would rather die than forfeit the career they built with their sweat and blood just for a man, others said they had no issues, as long as the man in question is as rich, as dedicated and as considerate as Deolu.

I couldn't help but notice the abrupt ending of the movie. Once the climax is reached in a movie, it is usually smooth sailing till the very end but it felt like the end came immediately after the climax. One minute the audience found out who the bad guy was and the very next minute he was being reprimanded. Whatever happened to suspense?

Love can make one do crazy things and this was proven during the course of this movie. Some people see it as sacrifice and compromise but it makes no sense when certain blockades are placed to prevent the manifestation of things that would be beneficial to both parties.

Recommendation.

Do I recommend the movie? Yes.

This was a generally good watch for me judging from the fact that I actually stuck by the movie till the very end. There are a good number of lessons to be learnt and as such I would give it a 4/5 rating if I were to rate the movie.
