In recent hours, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine has been more intense.

Indeed, the Ukrainian city of Belgorod, which is a few kilometers from the Russian border, was frequently targeted by missiles fired from Ukraine. Vyacheslav Gladkov, the governor of the Russian province, claimed that there are already 24 victims—including a child—and 108 injuries from the attack. An ice rink appeared to have been impacted by Kiev's missile launch, among other civilian facilities.

The Russian response was swift, both in terms of language and offensiveness. Russian Defense Minister Shoigu quickly said, "This attack will not go unpunished," and he unveiled a counterattack that showed up a few hours later. Near Belgorod, in Ukraine, Kharkiv was bombed by Moscow, resulting in at least 26 casualties. Artillery was also used to target residential structures in this incident.

Hence, the back-and-forth between the two nations intensifies Russia's recent massive assault against a number of Ukrainian cities, notably Kiev and Dnipro. At least 160 missiles and drones struck the nation, killing 42 people in total—19 of them died in the capital alone—while 7 bodies were discovered in Dnipro, according to the Ukrainian authorities. As a result of the Ukrainian attack on Belgorod, the Russian Foreign Ministry's spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, intervened as well and accused the EU nations of continuing to arm Ukraine and of working with the US to encourage the Kiev regime to carry out terrorist acts after realizing that the Ukrainian counteroffensive had failed.

Simultaneously, Moscow asked for and was granted a UN Security Council meeting to deliberate on the events in Belgorod. Why has the fight suddenly gotten more intense? It's believed that Moscow wants to shove its adversary aside by pushing Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, with its shoulder. Compared to the previous year, Kiev's number one seems more alone right now than ever.

He is no longer, in fact, invited to speak at the major international forums; in fact, he was once featured on the cover of Vogue magazine. Zelensky is currently having difficulty obtaining money and assistance from the US, his primary backer. Washington authorized the most recent military aid package on December 28th, which included $250 million for ammunition and vintage weapons. Zelensky's long-range missile request is still unfulfilled, and American assistance may potentially end here. Pentagon spokesperson Garron Garn, a lieutenant colonel in the Marines, stated that there were no longer any money available to replace the weapons that were removed out of the department's arsenal.

As a result, Zelensky seems more and more defenseless, which is why Russia is attempting to mount the final strike that may prove fatal.
