Hmong and Red Dzao women in Sapa are extremely enterprising. They possessed many skill sets such as farming, weaving, sewing, sales, childcare, cooking, hike guiding, and more. I was both impressed and stunned by their aggressive hustling ability. Another trait that shocked me was their directness. When tourists asked these feisty ladies about the involvement of men, they do not hesitate to confirm their lack of participation in sharing chores. Men were too busy drinking or gambling away with their pals.
