Why silver might be a better investment than gold over the next 10 to 15 years

In the world of investing, gold has long been seen as the go-to safe haven asset. It’s a physical asset that can act as a hedge against inflation, currency fluctuations, and market turmoil. However, when it comes to precious metals investing, many investors overlook silver. While silver may not have the same reputation as gold, there are several reasons why silver may be a better investment than gold over the next 10 to 15 years.

Silver is More Affordable

The price of gold has been soaring in recent years, making it out of reach for many investors. As of February 2023, the price of gold is around $1,800 per ounce, whereas silver is currently trading at around $21 per ounce. This means that silver is much more affordable for investors who want to add precious metals to their portfolio but don’t want to break the bank.

Silver has Industrial Uses

While gold is primarily used for jewelry and investment purposes, silver has a wide range of industrial uses. It is used in the manufacture of electronics, solar panels, and medical equipment, among other things. This means that the demand for silver is not solely driven by investment demand, but also by industrial demand. As the world becomes more reliant on technology and renewable energy, the demand for silver is likely to increase.

Has a Lower Historical Ratio to Gold
The gold-to-silver ratio is a measure of how many ounces of silver it takes to buy one ounce of gold. Historically, this ratio has been around 16:1. This means that it would take 16 ounces of silver to buy one ounce of gold. However, in recent years, this ratio has been much higher, with the ratio currently at around 85:1. This means that silver is currently undervalued compared to gold, making it a potentially better investment opportunity.

Silver is More Volatile
While volatility may be seen as a negative for some investors, it can also present an opportunity for those looking to make a profit. Silver is much more volatile than gold, meaning that its price can fluctuate significantly over a short period of time. For example, in early 2021, the price of silver jumped from around $25 per ounce to over $30 per ounce in just a few days. This presents an opportunity for investors who are willing to take on more risk to potentially make a higher return on their investment.

Silver is a Good Diversifier
Adding silver to your investment portfolio can help diversify your investments. Precious metals, in general, are often seen as a safe haven asset, meaning that they can provide a hedge against inflation and market turmoil. However, adding silver to your portfolio can provide an extra layer of diversification, as it is not as closely correlated to the stock market as gold is.

The price of silver, like any other commodity, is subject to supply and demand factors that can influence its value. Here are some factors that can cause the price of silver to increase:

Economic instability: Silver is often seen as a safe haven asset, which means that investors may turn to it during times of economic instability. In such cases, the demand for silver can increase, leading to higher prices.

Inflation: Silver is often used as a hedge against inflation, as it tends to hold its value better than paper currencies. If inflation rises, investors may turn to silver, driving up demand and prices.

Geopolitical tensions: Political tensions and conflicts can create uncertainty in financial markets, which can cause investors to seek safe haven assets like silver. This can lead to an increase in demand and prices.

Currency devaluation: When the value of a currency decreases, it takes more units of that currency to buy a given amount of silver. This can increase demand for silver as investors seek to protect their purchasing power, driving up prices.

Supply constraints: The supply of silver can be impacted by factors such as mine production, geopolitical issues, and environmental regulations. If supply is constrained while demand remains strong, it can lead to higher prices.

Overall, there are several factors that can cause the price of silver to increase. Investors should stay informed about these factors and consider them when making investment decisions involving silver.

I cannot predict the future with certainty, and predicting the price of silver 10 years from now is beyond the scope of my abilities. The price of silver, like any other commodity, is subject to a wide range of economic, political, and market factors that can be difficult to predict.

There are a few different methods that analysts and investors use to try to estimate the future price of silver. Some use technical analysis, which involves looking at past price trends and using that information to make predictions about future price movements. Others use fundamental analysis, which involves looking at factors such as supply and demand, economic indicators, and geopolitical events to make predictions about future price movements.

However, it's important to remember that any price predictions are subject to a high degree of uncertainty and should be taken with a pinch of salt. The price of silver can be influenced by unexpected events such as global pandemics, political unrest, or sudden changes in market conditions. Ultimately, investors should consider a range of factors and seek the advice of financial professionals before making any investment decisions involving silver or any other asset.

I've long suspected they've been suppressing the price of gold and silver. It's been frustrating to see their prices remain relatively stagnant despite quantitative easing and inflation.

I totally agree with you. Silver is better than gold because Because the price of gold is so high and people don't have enough money to put into it, people will put money into silver now and it will go up in value over the next few years.
