So whats a jar of silver fetch these days?

I set myself a target towards the end of last year - "fill this jar with 50% silver coins!"..... With a big help from @monsterjamgold, who has kept my habbit under control amd well fed, today ive almost finished whats taken me 6months to complete.

If youre not familiar with the term numismatist, a coint collector/enthusiast for the layperson, you maybe forgiven for not knowing the term ‘Pre-47 coins’ here in the UK. Basically it refers to pre-decimal coins, including Crowns, Half-crowns, Double-florins, Florins, Shillings, Sixpences and silver threepences that all date 1946 and before. The reason why this date is important, is due to the fact that from 1920 to 1946, coins were made of 50% silver. Coins dated 1919 amd earlier are made from 92.5% silver!

While these coins predate decimalisation (1971), they were converted to having legal tender status after the change over. Their face value and current worth is far below their silver content value and collectors will pay a premium for these tyoes of coins.

I havent got around to weighing the contents yet, but theres a good weight to it and once i have filled the jar to the brim, ill get back to you with weight and the current silver value.

Whilst it may be counterproductive to give away some silver from a jar im trying to fill, the new year and the fact its my birthday has me in a good mood.
