The Train Track Out Back
Moving to Fairview was a big adjustment for me. Before living in Fairview next to Grandma and Grandpa, we lived in the country with no neighbors nearby. For an elementary school child, it was lonely. I had my brother, parents, and pets. Neighbors were miles down the long dirt road. We were surrounded by wood and field. If I crossed the street, I was in Ohio. We lived in Pennsylvania in a town called Conneautville. Most of the kids went to schools in Ohio. I developed an active imagination.
Dad's job changed, and we packed everything up from our three bedroom house and moved into a small trailer next to Dad's parents. At first , it was hard to sleep. We lived across the field from a busy railway. The rhythmic clickety clack kept me lying awake, staring at the wood cupboard above my fold-down cot in the hallway between the kitchen and bathroom. It is amazing how the human body can adapt to change because eventually, the clickety clack and train whistles went unnoticed.

My husband also grew up with train tracks next to his house and he says he never noticed when it went by. We now live not far from his childhood home and I hear the trains ALL OF THE TIME, been here 15 years and they still wake me at night, they rattle my windows.
Ahh ours fortunately didn't rattle windows. We have trains a bit away from here I hear occasionally in the distance. I don't wake up per se, but I wake so frequently now over every little thing.
I do not know if it is my age or what is going on, I used to sleep all night and now I am like you said every little thing wakes me, sometimes I wake and can not go back to sleep and this aggravates me because I love to sleep.
I am the same. Once I wake, I often lay wide awake and at that point pray and hear everything like you. I used to sleep solid 8 hours. I miss those days :)
Me,too.
I lived with the noise of the city for most of my life and had no trouble sleeping. It was when I moved into the peace of the country that, for a while, I found it too quiet to sleep.
We're so funny, aren't we? I'm a country girl through and through. Nice to see you!

I also had a time next to train tracks as a child in NJ, I know what You mean.
Great Story and Amazing Image! 😍🤩😍
Thank you so much! Yes, and would you believe that my Dad worked on Norfolk & Western when I was a young child. I met my current husband a few years ago and he worked a short while on CSX railroad (and loved it!).
I believe it!
It's a good thing to get in to, especially for the lang haul!
Have a Great Weekend!
