04.30.2023 Sunday Goals and Achievements

Hello, Alive readers and Hive enthusiasts! This post marks the end of a rainy weekend. This evening is ending with sunshine, which was unexpected, but nice, nonetheless.

Today our Pastor and his wife were away vacationing in Florida for a well-deserved vacation. Meanwhile, back at church, the planned program we are watching each week for Sunday School, The Language of Music by Frank Garlock, decided it wasn't going to play on the church's computer.

Another member of the church, and former pastor of a church in Illinois, stepped up to teach an impromptu Sunday School lesson about the forgiveness of God and its availability to all once it was apparent that the video issue couldn't be resolved. This same gentleman preached tonight's message.

For morning worship, one of the missionaries our church supports was visiting and preached the morning message for us. He and his wife part of Couriers of Christ. Their mission is to supply Bibles to areas that have not been open to the gospel message and suffers a lack of the Word of God. Their goal is to share as many Bibles and Christian literature with as many countries that will let them in. They have supplied Bibles and John and Romans books to Poland, Germany, Romania, Ukraine, and Pakistan, among others.

This week was the last day for those at church or online who watch and listen to pledge money through Faith Promise Missions to use to support ministries like the Couriers of Christ.

If a member chooses to pledge, they fill out an anonymous slip with the amount that they are pledging to pay weekly for a year and put it in the offering basket. This is my second year pledging to Faith Promise Missions. The pledge amount is over and above regular tithes and offerings. The final total we as a body of believers pledged is $150,000 for this year's drive! We will be able to continue supporting all of the current missionaries, and we can add some new missionaries. We are getting $10,000 more this year to send out. God is good!

Pastor Stertz shared a powerful message about the need for each of us to receive God's forgiveness and to share His message of redemption with all the people we encounter. He spoke with deep conviction and I was blessed by themessage. I'm glad that my dollars contribute to this ministry and I thank God for using me in any way to spread the Gospel.

We streamed the evening service at home because of the hour drive to church. Pastor Stone preached on Ephesians 6:10-12. He told us to realize who our enemy is. It is not other humans. It's not your church family, biological family or neighbors. It's the devil and his fallen angels. We need to be alert and mindful of Satan's desire to discourage us, and his strategies to tempt us to be angry or vengeful, and to doubt that God exists or that He loves us.

Despite the wet, rainy weather I enjoyed the weekend, seeing and helping my grandson with homework last night, and enjoying yesterday's outing with my friend. I am not, however, any more ready for work tomorrow and the continuing rain and chilly spring weather.
