Social Media Challenge || The Difficulty of Defeating FLYING Units
Hi, everyone. Welcome to my post. In the Social Media Challenge, I will discuss anything about SPLINTERLANDS, it can be about cards, abilities, rulesets, battle reviews, End of Season results, or my playing experience.
In this post, I will share my experience regarding the difficulty of defeating monsters that have FLYING abilities.
Battle
The ruleset for this battle is FABFOUR (Players are only allowed to select a maximum of 4 units in this ruleset), EXPLOSIVE WEAPONRY (all monsters in the arena receive an additional BLAST ability), and BRIAR PATCH (all monsters in the arena receive an additional THORNS ability)
In the first round, Runic Skyclaw targeted his attack at my Ash Mirage. That made Grum Flameblade and Tinderlock take damage from the BLAST ability. My Tinderlock, Molten Ash Golem, and Ash Mirage decided to attack my opponent's Ash Mirage. The opponent's Molten Ash Golem took damage via BLAST, while the Runic Skyclaw was spared from BLAST because it had the REFLECTION SHIELD ability that protected it from such damage.
My opponent's Molten Ash Golem and Ash Mirage attacked Grum Flameblade but they failed to hurt my Ash Mirage with BLAST because it also has the REFLECTION SHIELD ability. Agor Longtail was unable to hurt Grum Flameblade because of the VOID ability which reduces the damage impact of Magic attacks. While Grum Flameblade attacked and almost defeated Molten Ash Golem (although it did not hurt Ash Mirage), it took damage from the THORNS ability obtained from the ruleset.
In the second round, my Ash Mirage was defeated by an attack from Runic Skyclaw. On that attack, Grum Flameblade and Tinderlock took damage through the BLAST ability. Ash Mirage and Agor Longtail attacked Grum Flameblade while dealing additional damage to Tinderlock through BLAST.
Tinderlock defeated the opponent's Molten Ash Golem. Meanwhile, my Molten Ash Golem targeted its attack at Runic Skyclaw. The Ash Mirage survived the BLAST but not the Agor Longtail. Grum Flameblade attacks and defeats Ash Mirage. Although it receives additional stats for defeating the target (due to the effect of the BLOODLUST ability), it also takes damage from THORNS obtained from the BRIAR PATCH ruleset.
In the third round, Runic Skyclaw was unable to attack because it was in first position and did not have the CLOSE RANGE ability. While Agor Longtail failed to deal damage to Grum Flameblade, Tinderlock still took damage from BLAST.
Tinderlock successfully landed an attack on Runic Skyclaw and Agor Longtail took additional damage. Meanwhile, Grum Flameblade and Molten Ash Golem failed to land an attack on their respective targets (Runic Skyclaw and Agor Longtail).
In the fourth round, although Agor Longtail did not deal damage to Grum Flameblade, he was still able to deal additional damage through BLAST to Tinderlock even though it was slight. Molten Ash Golem attacked Agor Longtail, but Runic Skyclaw was protected from the damage from BLAST.
Grum Flameblade and Tinderlock failed to land their attacks on Runic Skyclaw and Agor Longtail.
In the fifth round, Tinderlock was still taking additional damage from the attacks made by Agor Longtail on Grum Flameblade. Tinderlock managed to land an attack on Agor Longtail despite failing to hurt Runic Skyclaw through BLAST. Molten Ash Golem also successfully attacked Runic Skyclaw and dealt additional damage to Agor Longtail. However, Grum Flameblade still failed to hurt Runic Skyclaw.
In the sixth round, Tinderlock failed to hurt Runic Skyclaw and lost to a BLAST from an attack Agor Longtail launched at Grum Flameblade. Molten Ash Golem and Grum Flameblade finally defeated Runic Skyclaw and dealt additional damage to Agor Longtail. Grum Flameblade also received another stats boost because he was the one who defeated Runic Skyclaw.
In the last round, Grum Flameblade directly defeated Agor Longtail and received another stats boost (the effect of BLOODLUST ability).
Battle Review
Despite being in the BRIAR PATCH ruleset, I still use one Melee monster, which is Grum Flameblade. The reason is because it is one of the monsters that has high Attack power. So even if it takes 2 points of damage from the THORNS ability when it attacks, Grum Flameblade already deals great damage to its target. It also has VOID and VOID ARMOR abilities to overcome attacks from opposing Magic monsters. And because he is assisted by the addition of 2 SPEED and PIERCING abilities from Conqueror Jacek, he can comfortably attack opponents even if they have ARMOR.
But in reality, Grum Flameblade (and my other monsters) several times failed to land their attacks on the opponent's monsters that had the FLYING ability, making the battle last quite a while. This made Tinderlock lose due to the BLAST ability when Agor Longtail attacked Grum Flameblade.
You could say that the opponent's formation for this time was a little wrong because he put 2 monsters that have the REFLECTION SHIELD ability next to each other. He could have placed them between Agor Longtail who has the TAUNT ability. So that if Agor Longtail gets hit by my monsters, those 2 monsters won't get hit by BLAST ability because of their abilities. And Runic Skyclaw can still attack when Ash Mirage is defeated.
But with the current formation where Runic Skyclaw can't attack, the opponent managed to make all my monsters fail to attack several times. And if the opponent also has the BLIND ability, then the success rate of my monsters' attacks will be even lower.
Those are the kinds of things I discussed in this Social Media Challenge. Thank you for reading to the end and see you in other discussions in next week's Social Media Challenge.
