Prepare your seat belt, because I will take you along Lake Toba.
A beautiful lake that gets the title of the largest lake in Southeast Asia.

It was 2 pm when my friends and I arrived at Ajibata Harbor, which is located on the outskirts of Lake Toba. A port where many Ferry boats are perched, waiting for passengers to be escorted to Tomok Harbor on Samosir Island.

There are several reasons why we arrived at Ajibata Harbor when the sun was directly overhead. That's because we need 3 hours from the capital city of Medan. On several roads that we passed by a car there was a traffic jam so we were a bit late. And also we stopped at a restaurant to have lunch and pray the Dzuhur Prayer.

Even though we arrived there on a hot day, the air temperature around Lake Toba was very low, so my friends and I didn't feel hot. The air around Lake Toba is always cool.

This is schedule ferry crossing to Tomok. There is rate for the passenger type

As you could see that there Tao-Toba on the board. Tao Toba is the Batak language means Lake Toba.

After waiting for half an hour, my friends and I finally docked, along Lake Toba to Tomok Harbor on Samosir Island.

The Famous Legend of Lake Toba

IMG_3428.JPG

Instead of providing information about Lake Toba, I want to retell the famous legend about Lake Toba. This is a folk tale that is very familiar to all Indonesians from all walks of life and ages. I heard this folk tale as a child from a book I was reading. Then the filmmakers visualized it into a television film and it was already countless. The story of the Lake Toba Legend is always interesting to follow.

Are you ready to be my listener, ah reader. While waiting my story about the famous legend of Lake Toba, please take a look Lake Toba by my Canon D1100.

It is story about a young man named Toba and the Magic Goldfish. Toba did not know that the goldfish he caught and brought home because of its enormous size could turn into a beautiful girl. The beautiful girl was apparently a cursed Princess. Thanks to Toba, the Goldfish returned to its true form, a beautiful girl.

Seeing the Beautiful Princess, Toba fell in love. Toba and the beautiful princess finally got married. However, Putri has conditions that must be obeyed by Toba. If Toba violates it, Putri will disappear and disaster will come. Toba agreed to Putri's requirements in the form of not being able to tell her child later that Putri was a fish even when she was angry.

Seasons passed, Toba and Putri had a son who was named Samosir. Just like most children, Samosir is a child who likes to play and is disobedient. One day Toba was angry with Samosir's behavior and broke his oath. In a state of anger Toba said to Samosir, "You little fish!"

Samosir cried and complained to his mother. Because Toba had violated his conditions, Putri told Samosir to run to the highest place and could not return. Shortly after Samosir was at the top of the highest cliff, the waters came and drowned the place, except for the Cliff where Samosir lived.

That's why the lake is called Lake Toba with the island of Samosir in the middle.

That is the famous legend that all Indonesian believe in.

Tourist Favorite

As you can see, that on the island of Samosir there are many favorite resorts of tourists from various countries. They look happy to swim and play around the outskirts of the island of Samosir.

Uniquely, the resorts located on Samosir Island or other outskirts of Lake Toba have a very traditional design. Although not all resorts exist, most of the resorts on Lake Toba adapt the traditional Batak house form, namely Rumah Bolon.

Rumah Bolon (Bolon house) has a high floor, where stairs are provided to reach it. Rumah Bolon has a typical roof, with two sides of the roof sticking up. Under the tall Rumah Bolon, the Batak people used to do daily activities such as cooking or just relaxing.

Although adapting Rumah Bolon, the resorts on Lake Toba are not the same in function. There is a modern touch in it so that tourists can feel comfortable and like being at their own home.

Although there are many resorts and other developments around Lake Toba, the natural preservation of Lake Toba is still maintained. Flora and Fauna are still being protected from extinction by the local government.

If you are lucky, along the way to Lake Toba you will meet a herd of monkeys along the roadside. The monkeys also accompanied our journey when we headed to the port of Ajibata. Unfortunately, we didn't stop so I couldn't capture them.

Vivie Hardika

I have so much imagination in my head. Something that I can't achieve as a human and as a girl. So writing is very challenging. Since Junior High School, I have written whatever I want to write. Without skill, I just write what I want to read. Now I have 12th published novels and all of them are romance.

Yeah, I proudly say that I am a passionate author.
