My sister's house is located in a field where the land spaces are quite large, this allows her to grow fruits and vegetables. It is also a very fertile land because there is a river nearby.
This vegetable is very cultivated in that area so that every year almost all the neighbors eat and sell bananas. In the case of my sister, she grows it for her and our family's consumption.
The plant sometimes she buys them or most of them are given to her, every time she thinks of growing plantain the first thing she does is to clean the land leaving it free of all weeds, then she plows a little bit the land where she will place the plantain plants.
In order for the plants to grow healthy and strong, my sister often prepares compost with leaves, vegetables, fruits and soil, 'For the preparation of this compost they store it in a box, stirring it every three days for about a month, although the time may vary depending on the decomposition of the vegetables and you can tell when this natural fertilizer is ready by its black color and soft texture.
One of the most frequent dangers in this land for the care or growth of banana plants are ants or bachacos (Atta laevigata), my sister for this particular case in certain occasions prepares natural fertilizers or insecticide with garlic, spicy and cassava.
It is worth mentioning that this land has few stones ideal for plant growth. Another of the activities she does is to prune the plants to prepare the organic matter, it is important to remove the leaves for a better development or growth of the plants. As a curious fact it is necessary to perform this procedure every fifteen days.
As for the development of the plant my sister waters it every day because she lives in a very hot area with a very intense sun, she normally waters it first in the morning at about eight o'clock and in the afternoon from four o'clock onwards. It is worth mentioning that the fruit is given in approximately nine months and as for the care of the fruit it is important at harvest time to cut it delicately so that the fruit does not fall and spoil. Once cut it is recommended to keep in an environment where there is not much sun so that it does not burn and lose its freshness.
It is worth mentioning that my sister cuts it in the afternoon precisely at five o'clock because the intensity of the sun has lowered, also it is believed in the village that if we cut it at any other time of the day the plant dries up and the fruit withers.
After cutting the fruit, it is stored at home, placed in sacks and tied to a beam, and sometimes stored in a closed drum until the fruit is ripe.
Gardening does not allow you to be mentally old, as many dreams and hopes are yet to be realized.

I love your opening quote! Very inspiring!
Unfortunately bananas in our climate don't have enough sun to mature, but hopefully we will have some success with planting them in our wintergarden; we ordered dwarf pink banana seeds, let's see how they will turn out 😍
Best wishes from Croatia!
