AI is Artificial Mediocrity | Do You Agree?

(Edited)

Edward Snowden is one of my personal heroes and he appeared to give a speech on [REDACTED] 2024 event by Near Protocol. I will link the full video below because it is such a great talk and one of the most important speeches I have heard in cryptosphere. As a fun fact, Edward Snowden was one of the six original member that participated in the ZCash launch ceremony.

Few Highlights

AI do not think or act in any "intelligent way". One of the most surprising things I learned about "AI" is that it is closer to a form of auto correct or search suggestions. The following phrases from the talk sum up "AI" accurately IMHO.

  • "Oppression of the average"
  • "The known good configuration"

Snowden went on to talk about John Stuart Mill's On Liberty (1859) book which is very important for times such as ours. Many of my blockchain readers should end up finding themselves agreeing with most of the content of the book. Ultimately, freedom is one of the most important reasons to be a part of cryptosphere. We should not loose sight of that fact while waiting for adoption and financial gains.

This is a really interesting perspective and idea. I think it makes a lot of sense! In the day where people are increasingly pushed to be dependent and fragile, it is in a lot of ways pushing them to be more mediocre than we have been in a long time, and where it makes AI look superior. In reality, the human body is a fucking fascinating and COMPLICATED machine. What our body can do on a day to day basis with just some food, water and sunlight as input, computers right now can't do all at once. They can do parts of it but we can still do it as something that we do normally.

This was an interesting perspective, thanks for sharing!

Once you factor in human imagination, things get even more interesting. This is another very good perspective I came across:

The quote at 4:00 mark is one of the best short descriptions I have seen on LLMs.

I use AI a ton and I'm just now coming to this conclusion myself.

We are experiencing fetal AI at best right now though so I don't think this means it will stay that way as we learn how to apply it, train it and we curate the data better.

Interesting concept, for sure.

Even the technologies behind "AI" are evolving:

We learned to use autocorrect and autotune as tools for creativity. We can definitely use AI as a tool. I don't know what we can do to keep people from depending on it as a "The known good configuration" to always adhere to.

PS: https://peakd.com/ai brings great use case for HBD. If @spknetwork expand towards GPU power, we could take HIVE into AI niche.
