Fight Night event - series of images (ii) continuation.

It was one of the photography "projects", which i did as a volunteer. In other words, no one paid me for this work. My friend called me and asked if i would like to attend him and to photograph the boxing fights challenges at evening. I responded with immediate "YES" even without ask about the payment cos it was absolutely clear that no one will pay. At least this time.
My friend photographed these monthly fights already few times and as i got absolutely for free, but the experience, the adrenalin, the images we got - all was worth it - 3 hours of the intense photography in very busy space and not too good for the boxing photography light.
Additionally, at the next day i spent a few hours on the images post processing. I'm usually very fast in this process, so it took just two hours to select 600 images from 800 photographed, to edit them very slightly, to upload to some shared cloud and to send the link to the friend, who was in the touch of the manager of the fightings.

They loved my works and even asked me to attend the next month and to photograph them again, but.
The fight are organized by the city hall, and they don't pay for any activity they organize. In the next day i found a lot of my images freely circulating on IG and FB without any allusion to who photographed these photographs. And i hate to put my signature my images. Sure, i add all the possible metadata to every image EXIF - my email address, my web site and the copyright data. But IG and FB removes all this and makes the images naked from all the internal data. Such a pity.
So. My reflections now are - should i go next time again for the free photography session? Don't get my wrong. I do this kind of the free activity and volunteering all the time. At least 60% of my projects on order are free of charge. I can afford this - i have a job not connected to photography. But, my thoughts are about something different. These people will always try to find someone doing this job for free. And the city hall, behaving like a mafia in charge, will never pay for these who not their friends, family or having something for their interests.

What do you think, my friends? Should we continue to feed them?
Or we need just to concentrate on our volunteer work for the kids and teenagers, attending these challenges and waiting for these photographs ?

Fantastic photographs. You captured the dynamism of the scenes, with how difficult it is to work with those fast movements of the athletes. I'm very funny about the last image, it seems that the coach is more afraid of the camera than of receiving a possible blow that escapes, hehe. As for your reflection, I would tell you that if you find yourself uncomfortable because what you do is not valued and others take advantage of your work, you already know the answer. As long as you enjoy doing it, it doesn't matter, but when you don't feel well it's a sign. What is not paid is not valued.

thank you Paloma for the kind words and your reflections on the theme i'm writing here.
agree with you about how it doesn't matter when I am completely absorbed in what I do.
my joy and the joy of the people having these moments next day is what is really important :-)

The key is your enjoyment. Like the saying about “work on something that you are passionate about and you will never work again”. 😁

I would go and get your shots but don't publicly share them with anyone there. You could add a watermark, but like you, I don't care for those myself. On one hand it shouldn't matter but on the other hand... it does. Follow your instincts on this one.

thank you for your support and for these words. yes, i'm following my instinct already for years. i prefer to take pictures instead of talking about all around photography like many influencers to these days for their popularity.
and i hate watermarks :-( they adds to the moments or scenes something irrelevant to them. just my name.

I can understand the need for watermarks at times... but I can't tell you how many amazing shots have been ruined, that I've seen, with a shitty watermark. They are almost always a total distraction to the eye. However, every now and then I have seen some pretty slick ones that blend in because of how transparent they are. Usually, people just crop them out anyhow if they are serious about thieving the images!

I really appreciate your sentiment and perspectives on the art and imagery of photography. I will be curious to hear what you decide. Cheers

Great shots Victor!
Because I would get a kick out of it I would do such a shoot for free.
But most of the time, no budget means they have the money but they want the Photographer to do it for free.

hehehe, as i wrote - they are the "protection" and act like mafia :-)))
finally, most of people not connected to the world of "photography" - net really professional, but the real photography, made by the photographers, doing photography for years, they are think that today everyone can take the same pictures of the fight just with their phones, for free. Especially, when everything is goes to the IG, FB, stories and the quality is not really matter, so why to hire the real PHOTOGRAPHER, thinking about to bring the whole story, if he/her can come for free, cos he/her just interesting to do this kind of photography and to be involved in the different kinds of the humans activity. I just happy that i have these images and can share them with the entire world :-)

I don’t know which picture is the best!... Are all wonderful!... But I loved the one where the boxer seems to be kicking towards the camera!!!... Regarding the use of photos and such, I really have no opinion :( ... I’ve seen my photos used for all kinds of things by many people, I’ve even seen them cropped and with filters applied!... The first time that happened to me, I almost had a heart attack!!!! hahaha :))... But then I understood that I live in a country where "copyright" is a dead phrase and I would lose any battle in this regard... So I continued on my way, sometimes I add watermarks (a tiny one in the lower right margin) but I do it more out of habit than for any practical reason...

Excellent shots, even though they may be photos, you capture the movement of the actions as in this one almost in the middle of a fight. Greetings !

Thank you for the kind words. Most of the images for sure where of the fight by itselves. But for the real documentary story, i always look around to see and to photograph what is going around the fighting ring. I will post more about the fights in my next posts about :-)
