THESE TINY PENNIES WILL SAVE YOU SOON
These words were inspired a few days ago while I was struggling financially and didn't have enough money to cover my transportation costs to work the following day. When I got home, I started looking around the house for the pennies I usually scatter across the house because I was scared and didn't want to skip work or ask anyone for money or a favor. As it turned out, after collecting them, I had enough money to pay for my transportation for the following day.
Being surrounded by pennies when we have other enormous sums of money is not something that everyone really wants. If you're anything like me, you probably scatter those pennies all over the house in the hopes that one day you'll need to pay for anything and the penny will cover the cost. There are days when we are short on money, and these small pennies that we scatter are later collected to cover the payment.
Using our currency as a case study, the 10 and 20 naira I was able to gather are our second and third least valuable currencies, and they can't even buy a bottle of water or do some basic things, but fortunately for me, I was able to gather a small amount of them that sum up to 100 naira, which is the exact amount that'll convey me to my work place via tricycle.
I was so fortunate to have enough, and that was how I got to work the following day. This isn't the first time such things are happening, and one way or another, it has saved the day on many occasions. Although it might seem absurd to carry several pennies to a store to purchase several items, at least you're paying for it, which is much better than those who had to beg or take items on loan.
In a nutshell, regardless of how small they might seem, we should try as much as possible to cultivate the habit of keeping all these pennies whenever we have one, because at the end of the day, when gathered together, they can amount to as much as a dollar or more, which can on the long run pay for some basic needs.

True..
It can be helpful in a very crucial moment. There are times I would even forget some change in my pockets and I would be doing laundry and I will just see like N500 in my pocket..
Yea those are one of the exciting moment, washing and seeing money in your pocket is an heavenly feeling.
Hahaha heavenly feeling indeed
So true @vickoly, especially at this time of currency redesign.
Two days ago, one of my colleagues at the workplace told me how these notes assisted him too. His story: my colleague has a 10-year-old daughter who has a habit of saving 10, 20, 50, and occasionally, 100 naira notes in an empty, large custard container. Last Saturday, he wanted to go to the market to get them some groceries but most of the shops won't receive payment in the old naira notes, and the new notes are not forthcoming. And you know most of the traders he'll interact with either do not have an account or wouldn't trust any online transaction from a stranger.
This man had to call his daughter and her mother for a negotiation, hehe. His daughter agreed to hand over her savings to save the family on the condition that whatever is found in the custard container would be returned after the naira swap is over.
To their surprise, a sum of Eleven thousand (11,000K) plus Naira was found in the container, and the family was so happy with their findings.
It was a moment of jubilation for the whole family.
I'm telling you those little money are life savers in the days of trouble.
Wow you mean they saw around 11k from a young girl savings, that's such a good culture to inculcate at a tender age.
Yeah, @vickoly. Some of these kids can be very good at saving especially with some emotional support from their parents. I know many children who always want to save something from their pocket money at school, gifts from relatives & visitors, to gifts during festivities.
