A Christmas Fantasy

It is almost Christmas. The holiday season is mostly about family, fun and food. Everyone seems to be in a good mood. I want to have a wonderful Christmas with my loved ones, just like in old times. The memories of the previous Christmas period we've shared together right from my childhood flooded my mind, and I can't help but smile at the good old days of the impact of Christmas on my family.

Lost in thought, I thought I heard Mom cry out my name. Just to be sure, I called out, and she repeated herself, Go pack your bags. We're traveling to celebrate Christmas at Grannies Place, just like old times. That statement lit up my mood, and with that joy, I ran into my room to gather all I could so I wouldn't be the one delaying our movement schedule.

While packing, I couldn't help but wonder why mom and dad had acted as though we wouldn't be traveling, and in the last moment, they surprised us with this wonderful news. I had already felt bad about spending Christmas differently than we used to, but luckily that won't be a thing, and I'm thrilled. Back to the moment I dashed out of the room with my bag, smiling from chick to chick, to inform my parents that I'm good to go.

We all got into the car as dad zoomed off as we began our journey towards Granny House to celebrate the Christmas season with them as an extended family, like we've done from time past. I was mostly lost in my thoughts and fantasy throughout the journey, thinking of how I'd get to meet my favorite aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, and nieces, and not forgetting my lovely grandparents.

The Christmas season is the only time we get to come together as a big family to bond, catch up on old times, and reminisce about past events. It's always exciting as I get to listen to mind-blowing tales of the lives of my grandparents from their younger days. Those moments were also an avenue where adults reminisced about their younger days, laughed over each other's silly childhood lifestyles, and the like, and this brooded joy, laughter, and love between us.

I soon diverted from that thought to how we usually eat different delicacies, spending time with my cousins, with whom we all celebrate those Christmas holiday seasons at grannies, playing hide and seek, running around the house and listening to the adults share tales, advice one another, and much more.

I must have spent hours resonating with those thoughts when someone called out my name and said, Wouldn't I be coming out of the vehicle? Apparently, we've arrived at Grannies Place, and everyone has already stepped down from the vehicle to get their luggage except me. That call brought me out of my thoughts, and as I was about to grab open the door of the vehicle, I heard a knock, and what followed was, Brother Victor, mom is calling you.

The knock and statement brought me back to reality, and it was then that I realized I had drifted into a deep sleep and was fantasizing about how I would have loved the Christmas season to go. I responded to my brother that I'm coming, but deep within, I was dejected. Why won't they at least let me complete these sweet dreams if they can't be realized in reality? It's actually funny that those times I heard my name mid-sleep were actually real, but rather than responding, I was thinking it was coming from my dream.

Yes, it can't be actualized. In reality, although we usually travel to celebrate Christmas every year at grandparents places, since their passing, the family has become a shadow of itself; we no longer have such experiences, and Christmas to me hasn't been the same without it being spent with my extended family.

I really wish I could turn back the hands of time to experience such again, or better yet, have the nerve to gather the entire family to continue the family tradition and not let the passing of our grandparents drift us apart. Well, it's what it is. Let's see how this Christmas season will go, boring as the past 7 years that we've celebrated it alone or funfull like it was prior to 7 years ago!

That's all for my entry for this segment of the city of Neoxian prompt. I hope you enjoyed the read. Have a wonderful Christmas celebration ahead. To participate, kindly read this post to get more information.

Dream do come true and maybe things can go back to how they were. Christmas at your grandparents place sounds like a lot of fun. It is great that you have nice memories to dream about. However, you might get the courage to instigate a family reunion in honour of your wonderful grandparents. Then everyone will enjoy the time together and start a new tradition.

I hope this dream would even though every single situation seems like it wont, but let's see how it goes.

However, you might get the courage to instigate a family reunion in honour of your wonderful grandparents.

I wish I can do this, but I doubt the adult will agree to my opinion.

Thanks so much.

I can imagine how you must have felt at that moment 😂. It was obvious that you guys won't be traveling to your grannies place to celebrate the season and then, you got an opportunity to dream about it but it was ruined as well. So sorry Vic 😞.

I don't think you guys should have stopped the Christmas tradition because of the death of your grandparents. I see it as a legacy they (your grandparents) left behind for the rest of the family to follow suit.

Yea it was a painful experience Letting the dream get cut short, but it's all good.

I really hope that tradition will come back to life ones again.
