Vacations on 2 wheels

I have had the opportunity to travel to beautiful places, beaches, mountains, moors.... However, my best vacation was when I decided to spend a few days in my sister's new house, 2 hours away from my current home. Also my mother would be there, you can see her in the next picture, in the background, at the door. I asked her to come out so she could watch me ride down the street like a little girl with a new bike.

Although I am not a kid, as it is obvious, and the bike is quite used as you can see, I really had a great time those days. I had never before ridden a bike for more than 5 minutes in a space larger than about 6 meters, this means that I remember sitting on one, a friend's, for a moment but in a place not suitable for riding them.

I always wanted to do it but never had the chance. So when my nephew told me there was a bike in his house, I didn't hesitate to plan my vacation just to dedicate myself to riding one of these and that included learning how to ride it.

Finally, it was me and the bike alone, or so I thought, because a neighbor was watching me from his balcony and he couldn't stop laughing at each of my falls or at my happy face when I managed to hold on for a few seconds. I spent several hours trying to tame that little machine, until I finally managed to stay on it long enough to feel happy and happier than a girl with a new toy.

My mom would call me for lunch and I just wanted to be on those two wheels, riding around the urbanization without caring about anything else. I think it is normal that I often lost my balance and some children looked at me with surprise seeing an adult just riding a bike for pleasure and alone, it is not very common in those parts. Some laughed mercilessly and others with some compassion, I laughed too to be in tune with them, my inner child connected strongly.

I would stay up late pedaling down the street, going around the block again and again, with the same happy face and the same bliss of a full-fledged child. I would imagine myself racing and then I would pick up speed, the breeze on my face, my hand on the wheel, my mind in the clouds, all the problems seemed to be gone, I just wanted to keep riding for the sheer pleasure of it.

I would fall asleep feeling that I was still moving on 2 wheels, I would wake up thinking that the bike was waiting for me, anxious to go to meet it for a day full of adventures, like when I was a child who could play every day in the same place, with the same toy and it was great and it was special.

Then it was time to go back home, I couldn't be alone riding a bike forever, you know, you have to work and all those things. Where I live I can't have one at the moment, the place is not suitable for it, someday I will be able to do it.

I like it when I see people on the street riding bikes for pleasure. Once I saw a grandmother on an adult tricycle, maybe the picture I managed to take is not good enough to capture that detail, but I still wanted to share it.

I would go back to spend another vacation just riding a bike, for me it would be great.

See you next time 😉

This has been my first participation in the challenge Writing Prompt #7. I hope I have complied with the rules. Best regards!

It is totally understandable that you wanted to learn to ride a bicycle. It is irrelevant at what age. It is clear that you had "ups and downs" while learning but that is part of the experience. You had the free time to learn and you accomplished your goal. That was a
great way to spend your vacation.

Well, some people are inhibited by age, I remember that at that time I invited my older sister to learn with me, but although she was very eager, she did not do it because she was embarrassed about what the neighbors would think.

And, yes, it was certainly a good way for me to spend those vacations.

Thank you very much for stopping by!

Like you said,

the breeze on my face, my hand on the wheel, my mind in the cloud

What a great feeling. You will experience this and how fun it will be. You inner child will be elated that you persevered. This experience has no age limit. Learning to ride a bike during your vacation is a lovely thing to do; you can totally focus on what you enjoy.

Interesting!
This made me remember my husband who decided to learn how to ride because he felt embarrassed that I could ride a bike and he couldn't.
He made me teach in in the evenings until he perfected it. Now he could ride where I can't.
It's always good to always go beyond your limit. what makes it better is enjoying it while at it

It's great that you were able to help your husband learn to ride a bike, that's positive for a couple to share moments like that.

Both adult and children can actually enjoy riding a bike and it's good that you found what made you happy and went with it. The feeling of the wind on your face and hands with your mind the clouds makes it more exciting. That was a nice vacation experience even though it was a short vacay

As you say, riding a bike can really be enjoyed at any age. It is a great exercise, also a means of transportation and for some, it is a toy, for me it is the best.
